HDRx scoop...

Holy smokes - that is pretty damn amazing! Any chance you can post the same clip without Magic Motion so we can see or rather - show - people who are not on Reduser what the big deal about HDRx is ?

Frank, it's just an h264 webmovie.

Graeme

Obviously an H.264 scaling thing... here is a 100% crop from the original file. Strictly for medical purposes...

Jim

Ha ha ha, Your funny! :D

These images look incredible! I can wait, I am going a bit nutty and looking forward to using Epic for some upcoming project this summer... Maybe :thumbup1:

I don't get it! What's so impressive about this?
Why, everytime when Jim posts something everyone is like: WOW! Incredible! I can't believe it"....and so on?

Hey Jean, Imagine shooting a dialogue scene at night in Paris, London, Prague, New York, Toronto, Kingston Jamaica or any city with a 6x6 micro soft. And if you had a little bit more cash adding a small balloon light or a sun gun bounced off a small card on a hand held pole.

This is one example of how HDRX™ could bail you out of a difficult situation. I think up to 18 stops of DR is... well... WOW :w00t:

Should help a ton when filming SPFX explosions and muzzle flashes. The fire seems very naturalistic, even on my POS laptop. Lets get some C4 and gasoline and have a big "blow-up" at dusk for some serious DR testing!

If you hear a lot of "wow"... maybe it is because RED is pushing ever corner on the envelop. RED is 5K in a 1080P world. EPIC is 1/3 the size of the nearest 1080P competitor (real competitor). RED is 1/3 to 1/10th the cost of the other pro digital cinema cameras. RED gives you free software to use... and updates it seemingly every day. RED upgrades stuff for free. RED lets you trade you 3 year old camera in for full value.

Long time lurker, rare poster here. But as someone who spends a lot of time on other forums -- many which include a lot of "RED is a scam" folks -- what Jim says here is undeniable. Try finding the Sony engineers and asking them a question (much less getting a response) -- impossible. I myself had a number of lingering doubts about RED, but the latest color science has converted me, and of course all the recent developments with EPIC are astounding. There are a lot of "Wow"s on this forum, and that's why some people criticize REDUSER as "just a bunch of fanboys." But taken in context, the WOWs are totally justified. I can't wait to get my hands on an EPIC-S.

I have to throw in a "Wow" too, I took that compressed file of the twirly girl and pulled a key in my crappy compositing program and was blown away.

No ghosting, no green smears, just a perfect key. And that was compressed???

wow

WoWWoWWoW........................@J@
Jim this is really amazing! Thanks JIM, GRAEME and Red Teams...
Right now make me more hungry for Epic......

And those that know me well know that "big brain" is a real big problem for me. Seriously. I'll still take the compliment though!

Graeme

and that's why God made whiskey...

just kidding, your big brain and Jim's drive are a match made in heaven, Graeme...a little bit like Dickson and Edison.

the motion stuff is amazing, super clean - thanks for sharing it, Jim.

Wow, indeed. This might be a dumb question, but is this the same HDRx that will be included in the Scarlet?

jim would be interesting see the fireplace shot with a normal no HDRx™ exposure ...

I agree. Side-by-side comparisons are always fun!

Graeme... Jim...

Taking off virtual hat, having a cigar, a single malt and a big grin.

Just came in from set and showed this to the AC.

The "wow's" are going around the globe...

Can you post a still for comparison? I never had an artifact like that happen in compression stage before. Maybe what I meant was different from what you thought I meant - Attached what I meant, I mean. :)

Edit: the JPG is a lot softer than the PNG screenshot I made. So please only use as area reference and look at the original clip.

no offense but I think you are over analyzing. a web stream could have a lot of problems crop up. I think the judgements and critical analysis should be saved for HDRx r3d, with TIFF files exported from RCX. Only than can more objective and purerer critiques can be made.
