  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HDRx Overview...

Jim;
Could you verify that HDRx™ can be engaged while in time lapse mode?

Graeme;
On the post side, it would be a real timesaver if the slider could be ramped using keyframe triggers.

My primary application is dealing with changing light conditions while shooting a time lapse sequence - including shots that span from "day to night" - although just the sun dancing with cloud cover can exceed normal dynamic range.

Another thought: triggering a ramp to change the magic motion effect during a normally shot scene could open up some exciting creative choices...
(Again, in post)

Wait, I thought it was already easier to do HDR with stills...

Currently it is not easy to do HDR using current crop of still picture cameras because multiple exposures are significantly shifted in time. Epic addresses this problem and will make it easier or even possible to make HDR stills.

Driving around today, a hot summer's day in Melbourne and I can see HDRx™ opportunities everywhere. Anyone who's ever seen Australian light will know what I mean. First time I shot in the US it took me days to get used to how flat the light is. Over here it's really contrasty.

Have you ever been or shot in the UK? We don't need grey cards over here we just need to turn to the sky.

Hello,

A little off thread, but I thought I would ask..

Speaking of my favorite thing, time-lapse, are the available options for time-lapse more advanced than the current options with the RED ONE-MX? Namely are they more DSLR like in the settings? Obviously there is no physical shutter, but can we actually set how long we want to expose for a shot beyond a second or so? 30-60 second exposures for star time-lapse shots over longer intervals?

HDRx for stills will be great! It's definitely a help with getting less image shift (clouds) but I get pretty good results with shooting very quickly on fast cards with my Canon 1ds MKIII. You get some oddness in the clouds but I like the look for my own style of work.

Can't wait to check it out!

Best,

ATF

Yes... limits are the same as motion.

2.5:1 is somewhere around 14-18fps to an SSD. That will grow as SSDs get faster.

Jim

Jim, I asked this question in another thread but no clear answer. HDRx is sheer magic for cinema, but for stills... will traditional auto-bracket e.g. +2 +1 0 -1 -2, for traditional stills HDR workflows, be an available option with Scarlet?

I understand the concept of HDRx, but I'd have difficulty taking a camera seriously as a professional DSMC if you can't bracket conventionally with it, for HDR or indeed any other circumstance that requires bracketing. I want to be able to chose my optimum exposure(s) from more than two!

Thanks

Mike

Wait, I thought it was already easier to do HDR with stills...

Easier, but a hassle in post since you have to recombine each shot manually into an HDR instead of being a single RAW file.

And since a stills camera has to shoot two separate exposures you almost always get a pretty significant gap. At least the HDR in HDRx™ is aligned to one edge of the primary exposure.

EDIT: Hey! 4k posts. Wheee.

Mark P....

Mark P....

Wait... Mark P...A preview for HDRx Noooooooooo if they do that what will I use my good ole reliable light meter for. No more waving my meter around looking professional and guaranteeing a bit of overtime....You are such a killjoyyyy;;

So now shooting 3D in (4K?) HDRx will they run 60fps in 4K?.... Looks like I will be making 4 streams of 4K RED Raw..... Time to buy a new computer Againnnnn.

Yes sir I will have all that rendered in.... eh .... lemmeee se March???:w00t:

Amazing times!!!!

Didn’t we have complains that it is harder and harder to find anything on this forum?
I guess we have to focus from now, on the new hardware coming out and cut background noise to the minimum.
I would love to have search capability here like in the Outlook mail search.
