  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HDR-X Warning with Build 2.0.5!!

I'm sorry for your high fever buddy, hope you'll recover soon.
Re: the offtopic that bothered you so much, going back and forth firmware with the camera frozen happened since the One. At that time only a CF was needed.
Your thread, you are right, it got out of proportion, brought to the higher point that an alternate media feed is needed.

All better Paolo, thanks for the concern... ;)

The only thing that bothers me is just how things get quickly taken out of context, a joke its okay, its on me, but were instead of helping each other, the community and of course RED,
we pollute each other's threads, burry important info, and distort facts from fiction, allowing for confusion and more distortion in the real world by those that use RED not as often
and by those that already are on a mission to make RED look bad, which in turn is not good to us that we own and use RED and make a leaving with it... ;)

Ketch

Threads are like conversations. Sometimes you start one with the right intentions and they spin out of control. I just posted a great solution in an audio thread and it turned into "the EPIC audio is unprofessional". Just like that.

In many cases too, threads turn out good ideas. It would be great for red to sell a lower priced SSD card for firmware upgrades because it's nesseary. Not every person buying a new Scarlett has the extra bucks for a 950$ SSD firmware card. This is not dissing RED at all, it's a way of trying to make the user experience better. Then again it's the cost of doing business.

With way more cameras out there there will be way more people sharing information, good and bad, you can't keep a lid on it.

You are a prominent and known REDuser. When you post a big warning about a software build you can be sure people are going to react by either asking more questions (which lead to answers) and a conversation emerges.

Paolo's satire was what good satire is, a bit funny and a bit true.

I didnt try to jack your thread. Just sometimes threads evolve.

Hope the fever is better brother. Let's get together in Florence when you are back.

David

Totally agreed David,

and btw my pointing out of not ben happy of how things were heading here, was not absolutely aimed at Paolo's comment, but at few others,
without specifically taking them out of the crowd... ;)

It is because I did believe on the importance of this thread's original message that I wanted to make sure we stayed on Topic and continue to make
this a good thread of info for any one of us that always use BETA build to stay on the edge, and also providing a service of BETA TESTERS,
and this needs to be kept in mind when we use BETA, as we are also testing and we should all report to RED directly, which I tough one of us did prior,
and I'm sorry it was not done, as it shoule always be the priority.

Coming back to Florence tomorrow David, and strait to the Doc's to see what's happening, then I hope to move in to my new Flat,
and have you over with couple of girls to test the new Kitchen out... ;)

Rubbish

Rubbish

That's why they are selling 4 SSDs packages: 1 formatted ssd for blackshading, 1 with the beta firmware, 1 with the official firmware and 1 for recording.
I think there's a difference between Release and Beta versions. And this is not the reason why four cards are released.

Awesome post too Ketch. Again. I was fogged working out the Spinner until you posted. You're out there on the bleeding edge. Nobody is forced to upgrade to Beta software. The features in the Release build are more than enough. Test pilots die. I got 'it' at hello Ketch. Thanks.

a Force Upgrade File is what comes inside the folder for the Upgrades from RED, this need to be dragged inside your SSD Media via your SSD
reader connected to your Computer, then the SSD is inserted in to the Camera to perform the BUild Upgrade, which you must follow the
directions that come in the Download Main Upgrade Folder.

thanks Ketch, helpful as always. what i don't understand is why would you keep it on an SSD that is not being used? because it wouldn't work with an earlier (safer) build folder recorded on it?

Thanks for the kind words Brett, its a great filling when some of the stuff I do and post about serves a good purpose to some one else... ;)

My pleasure Enrique,

what I refer to as to keep an Upgrade file on an SSD, is that if you are using a BETA Build on Paid projects, which no one is recommended to do,
but I do it because, well, its me, just that if you do use BETA build on paid jobs you need to be prepared, and one of the ways to be prepared for me is
to have the Release Build on an SSD ready to go, unless you carry the Laptop with SSD reader to the location and then you can just drop the
Upgrade file any time on any SSD without having one only for the Back Up Upgrade file.

Sounds good Ketch!

Thats going to be a good dinner. !

David

He he, it will be the first time I cook since I have been back to Italy in May, so it better be GREAT,
now if the very first one might happen just with me, some candles, a girl... Please do forgive me... ;)

Once upon a time this company in California was talking about making an adapter to put CF cards in the SSD slot......:leaving:

Well, If Red did decide to make them, letting everyone know that here is a computer-free solution for firmware re-installs, that may well save your butt one day, they would sell a very large bunch.

Will carry the laptop everywhere with the Release build, definitely. Thank you!

I was thinking, what if Red made an SSD dummy card that held only enough memory for storing a Release build? That would be a handy tool for rebooting the camera just in case laptops were not nearby...

Yeah mentioned that before. No response yet. But it actually is not necessary but still would be handy for those rare moments.

Cheers

He he.

I have been in communication with the Boys in NZ for a while now, and my desire to visit and meet PJ has been in me since first seen The LOTR Trilogy 5 years a go,
can't remember how many times I have seen it since, first time ever I have seen a Movie over and over... ;)

PJ has inspired a new wave of things in me since, and for this my plans to visit NZ, most recently with the opening of Park Road I am talking collaborative work with their Post facility,
hoping to bring something special to the Screen together... ;)

UPDATE for HDR-X BUG In BETA BUILD 2.0.8!!

  • Fix for camera not booting with HDRx enabled

:) great! a fix :)

and thank you for your reply! I guess it's true for me too.... having watched and analyzed the trilogy over and over, it always makes me want to go out and shoot. mainly because of the way I see PJ coming from where he started. Loved his work since bad taste, but they way things exploded was not at all imaginable for me back then :)

I often joke around with friends of mine about how PJ went shopping with the script for the LOTR. "Well Sir, the script is nice.. say, what are you references again?" "Hmm... lemme see. I've got puking, rampaging, drug abusing hand puppets and than there's also the experience with the lawn mower..." hehehe

When's your trip to NZ due?

cheers

ps. yeah I've seen and know about Heavenly Creatures, Frighteners, Forgotten Silver :)

Of course Patrick... ;)

My trip to NZ has been postponed since I'm going to Location Scouting Egypt for one of our Movies next week,
I might go right after I return end of February or when I return form Brazil in March, were btw, we'll be filming a really nice
Gift Video of How to EPIC/SCARLET form ordering the right package and accessories, to set up, capture, post with frame
extraction and right workflow to preserve IQ and print, lots of info, lots of girls, lots of FUN, but this will be an other THREAD all together... ;)

This most likely explains the freeze we had a week or two ago in our shop. Same thing, I went to change frame size and the camera just froze solid, when I cycled the power I just got the checkerboard pattern. I could change settings on the side handle but I'd see no video and couldn't record. I screwed around with the redmote a bit and cycled power a few more times and it eventually booted. But it was a good fifteen minutes. Probably put HDR on. I've since put 2.0.8 on there. What a wierd bug, I could see how it would freak a person out.
