HDMI Problem with Panasonic TV

I've tested the HDMI out to a TVlogic 7 monitor which works well with an HDMI to DVI cable. No problems other than the sides of the DVI connector need to have the plastic boot cut back a bit as the DVI connector on the monitor is recessed.

I used Good quality 1.2M, 2.4M cables work fine and also a long 7M HDMI to HDMI with HDMI to DVI convertor on it, this cable has ferrites installed which I hope will keep down any RF.

I also tried conecting HDMI to HDMI in to a domestic Panasonic 37 inch LCD Viera TV. However on conecting the cable the HDMI crashes the camera (running build 16 3.2.5) on disconecting the controls are frozen. Also on boot if the cable is conected the camera wont boot.

Im assuming there is something coming back up the HDMI causing the issue with the Redd.

Appoligies if this is in the book some where.

Any advice welcome.

thanks,

I've had the camera working fine into a Panasonic 1080p plasma over a 25ft HDMI cable no bother.

Me too. That's why this issue is so frustrating for all of us, many HDTV sets and computer monitors work fine, then you get one that won't.

So please do keep sending us any data that you believe is relevant to this problem, there must be a root cause here that we will uncover.

Im working on this now but I believe that Pana TV's have a means of controling devices over HDMI called Viera link, other manufacturers may have similar control protocols. I think this may be causing the camera to crash.

Here's what happens.THE HDMI link when plugged in but not selected as a valid input on the TV does not crash the camera, however when the relevent HDMI input is selected on the TV the camera falls over suggesting there's some sort of handshaking going on.

Here's what Panasonic call Viera link.

As soon as I can Ill check this out practicaly and switch the Viera link facility off and see if that cures it. Ill leave a post here.

I've had another look at this. Turning Viera link (CEC) off in the Panasonic TV menu makes no difference. Plugging in the HDMI still crashes the camera irrespective.

This is a Panasonic Domestic TV and may perform differently from the Professional LCD displays.

Thanks for trying that Dave.

I have already posted in another thread, but it is relevant tho this one too.

I connected my Red up to a Panasonic 42" Viera (TH-42PX60B) with HDMI and I got no signal showing at all.

But the Viera did not crash the Red.

First can you check if that model supports 720p?

Next can you check the setting of the MONITOR / PREVIEW output - is it at MENUS(DVI) or VIDEO (720p)

Last can you check the setting of MONITOR / HD-SDI - is it at 50.00 or 59.94

It supports SD, 720p and 1080i (and probably others).

Set to 720p.

Not sure about Monitor setting. Will check on Friday.

I've had the same issue yesterday. I tried to use HDMI to HDMI, and my camera/menu's froze. Then I tried to reboot camera and it wouldn't. I had to remove the HDMI cable for the camera to work properly.

What can we do???

For now plug it in via DVI (assuming you monitor has DVI on it) with an HDMI to DVI lead, I cant promise it will work on the monitor but it most likely will.

OK, time for an update to this issue.

I have now updated the camera from Build 16 to Build 17.

Now I DO get an image on the Panasonic TV.

The only problem now is that it is shifted over to the right, so I only see about 65% of the picture.

Any ideas?

We have a Panasonic TX-37LZD85 and have it connected by HDMI to a DMR-EX768 which is connected to a Sky+box( then to TV ). When turning on the EX768,it go`s to 4:3 and not 16:9 through the HDMI. But if we select the AV1 it changes to 16:9? On playback from the HRDrive which we recorded from skybox it plays back in 4:3 through the Hdmi1,again if we select AV1 ,it plays in 16:9 ? From turning on the TV and then turning on the skybox we get 4:3,we then have to manually press tv/sky on hand set to get 16:9.When we first had the TV fitted it selected the correct equipment and aspect of 16:9, now when doing the same, it selects 4:3 ? We have also a Playstation3 connected through HDMI2 and it will not switch through automatically as it did when first fitted,we now have to select manually. The Tv also does not switch back automatically to tv when turning off the EX678,again we now swich it manually. When watching a Blueray (Batman DarkNight DVD)via Playstation3, the tv will change aspect from full 16:9 to letterbox format when going from a Dark picture to a Light picture. We Saved for two years in order to get something worth while ...hm,got them fitted 19-12-2008. All swiching between tv ,dvd hd, skybox+ and the Playstation3 worked /switched correctly for 6days, boxing day ,as above. HDMI ,we believe should switch between devices, as when watching / recording from the skybox, should we be able to not have to switch from HDMI1 back to AV1 ( is back feeding safe ?) to have an aspect of 16:9 Not 4:3 ??? Thankyou inadvance and a Happy New Year Oh and just found out Playstation HDMI connection (yes) but no switching available in side ? Bad design Sony !!! But what I`m thinking is the HDMI is not ready for use or my new TV has already started misbehaving .........hm

Are you feeding it 720p or 1080p from the camera?

My Plasma Does not work

My Plasma Does not work

I have a DVI input on my 61 inch Marantz Plasma. It was one of the first 61 inch plasma's to come out. It has a DVI connection on it (29 pin; also called DVI-I). Anyway, I connected an HDMI cable from my HD cable box (Scientific Atlantic) to an adapter (HDMI female in, to male DVI-I out).

I get no signal. I am not sure why. When I connect a video cam to the Plasma using the same hookup I do get a picture but it's not perfectly clean, plus the last few lines on the bottom of the plasma are messed up. The picture is not very good. Not sure why.

Someone said the reason the cable box is not working with the older Marantz Plasma is because the Marantz Plasma is probably not HDCP compliant and the cable box is HDCP compliant and therefore the Marantz cannot intepret the signal and shows no signal. Anyone know if this is correct?

The answer I got from some Marantz person (who did not seem to know the answer) is that I am using as a connecter a DVI-D connector which has 25 pins, not the 29 pins on a DVI-I connector. I looked this up on Wikipedia and elsewhere and the 4 extra connections are for analogue signals anyway, so its not necessary or useful at all when going from HDMI to worry about using the 29 pin connection...again the 25 pin connection is all the necessary digital connections and the 4 are not useful for this...the 25 pin connection I have now does fit is just fine.

I could not easily find a 29 pin DVI to HDMI connector unless I buy it from Europe online (I live in NY)...and this connection as far as I can tell would not change a thing...

Frustrating to hear a different answer out of Marantz than what I think is the true cause.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks-

I have the same problem with the panasonic 46PZ85E (europe)
