Hi,

Has anyone successfully run a 1080p60 HDMI signal out of their Epic/Scarlet and into a converter/repeater across Cat6 (or Cat5e)? I'm looking into the feasibility of this to avoid using heavy gauge HMDI cables for runs over 25ft.

I've been looking into some products to be able to do this, but don't know if anyone has any first hand compatibility reports on any particular devices:

Here's one that would have to be powered by the Epic/Scarlet itself:

Here's one that needs a 5V 2.0A power source:

Any experiences to report?

Thanks

I worked as Video Tech for years and occasionally the Video Engineer would like to use Cat5/6.

Pros
1. you can do a video run of something close 2000ft
Cons
1. it's not shielded very well, so you can easily get signal loss or bars
2. for that same reason it need to be run separately from power(e.g. Lighting), so if you're running it up into the grid and they are still adding stuff, you can get in trouble.
3. it can be snapped, broken easily.

BnC/HD-SDI cable is probably the best choice and you can probably get about 500ft

are you coming off a board with only HDMI outs?

End of the Day, I would need to see a schematic of the room, know which video switcher is being used...

Might be something like thishttp://dqjmn-4528205938@gigs.craigslist.orghttp://www.cablewholesale.com/produ...hyDtOp2X3IvGjB5Czn46dfD4fjGeW2cqn_fqYK7Pw_wcB or this or This!

Thanks for the informative reply and the links, Jeffery! Good to know the drawbacks too.

My main intention is to run a picture from a Scarlet to a large consumer HDMI display on set for focus and framing purposes.

I think you're right that HD-SDI is the better option. I'll probably end up running HD-SDI out of the camera to an HD-SDI-to-HDMI converter and then into the display.

Am considering a Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 for this purpose with the added benefit of on-set playback.

Thanks

Hyperdeck is a great cheap alternative to record 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes DNxHD, which is good enough quality for most broadcasts.

I believe you can also use the Hyperdeck to covert the signal also Camera->HD-SDI->HDMI->Monitor...so you'd only need to do the single run of HD-SDI to the projected image.
