  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HDMI out not working on Scarlet

I have a TV that won't work with the HDMI output from the Scarlet, though I can get it to work with other monitors (even of the same brand).
Have you tried a different screen? Maybe a computer monitor with HDMI?

I heard somewhere that you are not really supposed to hot swap HDMI cables. Most of the times it will work just fine, but there is a minute chance of a frying a board.

Yeah, I just updated the origin of this thread with this:

Update 2: I tried another monitor, but got the same result. The monitor reports "no signal" with the scarlet set up as below.

Different brand, different location, different size, but still 1080p.

Hmm, I would try with one of the RED HDMI firmware versions to make sure you have the right settings. (Be ready with the normal firmware to get the image back on the touch screen)
If that doesn't work you should file a ticket and send a log.

Neil, chances are that you haven't gone through the following process, and that's why it won't work, so do this:
*First make sure to download the" DSMC_Resources_3.2 " folder to you computer. That's where you'll find your desired hdmi presets.

1) Insert a formatted SSD MAG into the REDstation and creata a 'force_preset' folder
2) Unzip the file and locate the required preset file.
3) Copy the required preset file to the 'force_preset' folder. (in this case, you'll want to insert the "enable_menus_hdmi_1080p.preset" in the "force_preset" folder)

NOTE: Ensure you have selected a file from the correct camera version folder.

4) With the camera OFF, install the SSD Mag and power up the camera.
5) The camera will recognize the preset file, apply it and delete the folder.

That process seems a bit obscure since there is already a "1080p" option for the "HDMI" output. I will try that after I try downgrading to 3.3.14. Thanks for the info.

Wait, I don't want to enable menus. I just want a monitor via HDMI. I already have a side handle and a touch screen.

Sure, but you could try it just to be certain your settings are correct

I just did a fresh install of 3.3.14, and got the same result.

I believe the problem is that HDMI is not quite standard on one or both of the devices.
I had these types of issues with other HDMI Devices and many of them don't work. I think it's tricky to get HDMI timing and signals correct.

Are you serious? I've had almost two dozen day-to-day HDMI devices over the last few years, and in my experience with using random cables I've never had any issue whatsoever. I don't find your statement impossible, but it doesn't match my experience at all. Can you clarify? The only HDMI device I've ever owned that didn't work is my Scarlet.

Neil, please do yourself a favor and humor me by doing what I suggested above; you've got nothing to lose. Take it from someone who's been through this a thousand times.

I love shits and giggles, but it doesn't help.

I can actually read SQLlight dumps, so I can see exactly what the force_preset files do.

I noticed with the latest beta I am now getting intermittent results with all HDMI displays that worked flawless with my Scarlet (prior to new beta).
I have to switch back and forth and toggle all options to get a display to work.
At times I just lose patience and quit.
I am glad I don't have to rely on HDMI for any current workflows.

What do you mean by "switch back and forth and toggle all options to get a display to work."?

in my case for the Panny I kept pressing the input option from HDMI1 to HDMI2 plus on and off button along with unplugging and plugging the cable from the Scarlet.
you get some stupid results but it eventually kicks in.
sorry thats pretty well I can say.

I was having the same problem, and then I shifted it to 720p/60hz. That didn't work, then in some weird combination of powering down the camera and powering it back on it finally started working. I think it worked after I powered down and powered back up with the cable connected and in the right mode (720p)

That said, there's a thread below which points out it WONT work if HD-SDI has not been disabled as well. Worth a shot.
