Is there a trick to getting HDMI out working? Or am I using a cable with an HDMI version that doesn't work with the Scarlet? I am using a cable labeled as "High Speed HDMI cable with ethernet", and when I set up my Scarlet as below, and plug it in to a monitor, nothing is displayed. The monitor does detect that a cable is plugged in, but it doesn't see any signal. The monitor is a Sony KDL-32XBR6.

Are there other settings I need to adjust to get HDMI working? Or a different cable?

Thanks,
-neil

Update: I got my hands on another cable, labeled as "HDMI" (presumably HDMI 1.0?), but I still get nothing from the camera. I disabled all the other monitor paths that could be disabled (except for the touch screen), still no luck.

Update 2: I tried another monitor, but got the same result. The monitor reports "no signal" with the scarlet set up as below. The second monitor is a Panasonic TC-P50GT30.

Update 3: same result with 3.3.14.

Ok... Have you restarted the camera after enabeling HDMI?

It was enabled from the factory, I didn't do anything special to enable it. Unless I am missing some other setting? In any case, yes, I've restarted the camera, restarted the monitor, gone through different orders of plugging the cable in, etc. But no luck.

Have you tried changing the resolution to 720p? I had to do that yesterday shooting with an EVF that would only accept that resolution. Still don't like HDMI output but had to make due.

I've tried 720p and 1080p and each available frequency. I've also tried the various "modes". I haven't done every conceivable combination, but the obvious ones result in no signal.

What sort of cable is confirmed as working? I know there are different versions of HDMI...

I assume the monitor can handle progressive and not just interlace??

the engineer in me says - get another lead and prove it's "not" the lead, then work from there..

Yup, it's a 1080p TV. This cable/monitor combo works fine with a playstation and an apple tv.

Without other info, yes, the next step is to get another cable. So my question is, which version of HDMI is known to work with the scarlet?

Thanks,

i'd go standard TV type without the ethernet bit. Just keep it simple...

just to make clear - how does the monitor "tell" you its got a lead connected?

There is a little indicator next to the input:

Presumably that just detects that something is plugged in, since there is no signal.

Yeah, that symbol could just be the voltage passing through the lead and not the signal.... I wonder if theres something like a mirroring situation happening? When I plug in my macbook air it sometimes doesn't show up and needs a reboot. Have you tried both plugging it in and then setting the connection up and otherwise doing a "hot swap"? just a few more things to try..

I don't see any way to turn it on or off? The "Brain HDMI" setting is just there, with three "modes" available, and no "on" or "off" setting that I can see. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Sorry Neil, i have misinformed you.. I was thinking there might be a situation where the camera needed rebooting after connection? Doesn't sound right but is it worth a check? the old "wiggle"test hasn't solved it i suppose? i.e., wiggle each connection end and then slowly flex the wire all along its length... could be a short/loose conniption? Oh and when getting a new cable please don't be fooled into buying a stupidly expensive gold connector cable.. Data out/data in, thats how it is with digital cable... Been using a $10 lead for everything . I just keep 3 spares at hand!

Sorry I can't help with the Scarlet end of things as mine is still "being delivered"

Well I think once you've checked the HDMI lead with another electrical device and proved it works, and then tried that working lead in another tv set (a long job but necessary) then I think you've unfortunately proved its the "fault" of the HDMI connection on the camera.. I'll have to bow out there as I haven't used the camera...
Good luck Neil

Thanks for all the suggestions, Simon.

I have a TV that won't work with the HDMI output from the Scarlet, though I can get it to work with other monitors (even of the same brand).
Have you tried a different screen? Maybe a computer monitor with HDMI?

I heard somewhere that you are not really supposed to hot swap HDMI cables. Most of the times it will work just fine, but there is a minute chance of a frying a board.
