I've learned Scarlet will only output 1080p60 from HDMI.

This means some expensive capture devices like the NanoFlash won't work.

It means that many existing HDMI monitors won't work. (both from users on this forum)

SDI can output 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97.

If HDMI could output at these formats, most devices would work.

Luckily, I believe I've found a solution for my problem, as I only care about HDMI devices inside my studio:

However, this means adding one more device in the data path, one more thing to go wrong.

And I can't see someone using this outside of a studio for a NanoFlash or for their older 7" HDMI on-camera display.

If you might like to use existing HDMI devices with the Scarlet, you might let RED know this is important to you?

BTW - if anyone is interested, I've got a nice studio workflow that might be of some use to others?

I run HDMI from my current camera to an HDMI splitter.

One output goes to a large HDMI monitor for focus and framing.

The other output goes 10 meters to a Black Magic Intensity card and FCP7 (soon to be switched to Premiere 5.5 on Win7)

I can monitor the shoot from the editing room, recording ProResHQ 422 - and immediately play it back on a large display and verify the audio on studio monitors.

Being able to quickly show the talent what they are doing wrong and what I want is very useful.

Having a backup of the shoot with audio, and knowing that it is perfect before the session is over is priceless.

I'll use QuadHD 4K for production, but ... if something should ever go wrong, I've got a debayered high quality backup.

I hope that RED will embrace supporting older devices, as any money spent on upgrading is money that can't be spent on RED.

And it does increase the cost of entry for some Scarlet users.

I have shot with my Red One, Epic and Scarlet, all with HDMI and never had a problem. There has only been one computer monitor that I couldn't get to work perfectly, and that's because it wasn't capable of displaying 1920x1080. Even that one worked with my R1.

There is no issue here, there are hundreds of $180 24" monitors that work perfectly, get one.

Same goes for recording via HDMI. Plenty of devices that are working right now. Get a Ninja.

My BlackMagic Intensity and Matrox MX02, only read 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60, 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p29.97, 1080p30. I can list a number of other cards that only read the same formats. 1080p60 just isn't widely supported for HDMI.

If my HDMI recording devices won't read 1080p60, I'm not surprised that many monitors won't.

This user reported issues with HDMI monitors:

As for 'Get a Ninja' - that would work well for me.

However, what about the guy who already owns a perfectly good $3K NanoFlash? He might actually want to use it?

Again, I would hope that RED would support existing devices, as not everyone can just buy everything from scratch.
