Guys,

I'm trying to use a Black Magic HDLink to display a picture from the RED camera's HD SDI out and not having much luck. According to the forum, it should work.

I've tried a Dell 24" 2407WFP and an Apple 23" Cinema HD Display and can see from the HD link red light that it is getting a signal but no luck on the display. No signal at all. Has anyone else had this trouble? Am I missing something?

some jiggery pokery is required. Haven't quite worked it out.

Make sure both leds on HDlink are on and 720p is selected on monitor/preview. Maybe toggle the monitor/hd-sdi from 50 to 59.95Hz and back.
Have a cup of tea. Might be it just needs a minute in the right configuration.

Hey David,

Thanks for the answer, I've been trying all those things and having read that it does work with this combination of monitor and HDLink thought it was a case of trying all the options. I take some reassurance from your note that you haven't worked it out either!

I think maybe the 2407WFD doesn't accept a 720P signal?

I've the Dell 2405FPW & HDLink which I get to work each time...trying those option..not sure what makes it work thou.
I think it may require a minute in the right combination before it snaps into life.
My AJA HD-SDI-Component converter is even more of a pain.

At what resolution are you trying this

720p presume, and 50.00 or 59.94 ?

And if so, why HD Link rather than the HDMI of the camera ?

Here is a pic how it works with an old Apple Cinema Display 20".
The picture shot in time before I've got EVF.

Hi Stuart,

Yes 720P and 50.

Couple of reasons for using HDLink. I happen to already have it and wanted to play with the gamma settings.

However, mostly because of the convenience of BNC lead flexibility and length. Another reason is that I read here that people were using it and I thought I would try!

O.K, two camera settings to check -

SYSTEM / MONITOR / PREVIEW = 720p

SYSTEM / MONITOR / HD-SDI = 50.00 Hz

Yep,

Done them both! I think I may try the HDLink with another camera ie output 1080P. Is there a chance that the Cell 2407WFP won't work with a 720p signal?

I have i idea . Try to update you're HDLINK, Just plug in it in Mac with USB , then install HD LINK software or DeckLink , and i thing that system will ask you for update . Try it , because if you have old version i is not working . And also try with another 720p device if you have . It can not be monitor problem .

O.K, now try setting the HD-SDI to 59.94 Hz. It may be that he monitor does not like locking up to 50 Hz signals... we have seen that with some units - I can't give specific model details unfortunately.

Tried it today on a Cinema Display 23"
You must set your PVW Output in the MONITOR Setting to 720p and the HDSDI setting to 59.94 even if you´re shooting 25fps, if you change to 50Hz, the Display goes dark.

Guys,

Thanks for all the help, I originally tried all these options, 720P and 59.94 etc, and posted here as a last hope alternative, I'm going to send my HDLink back to BM for checking, I figure that there must be a fault. I also tried other cameras and monitors at a friendly local hire house, still with no luck. I sincerely thank all and everyone for their time with this one!

try it out the back of a BM card in a mac pro if you have one at something like 1080i into the dell. If non of the BM settings.. SD or HD work its the hdlink.. if it works its the red compatibility with the HD link.

Though do recall quite a few people with busted HDlinks in the past.

Has it ever worked ?

I can confirm that HD Link is working with 720 and 1080 outputs from Build 16. I have run to a Dell 24" and a Samsung 22"

Hey Si,

Good to hear from you, how goes it? HDLink has never been tested before, got bought for a task that never came off and sat unwanted waiting to be used for about 10 months now!

I'll do the test you recommend, though my suite is off in use atm and difficult for me to access, I can get on it next week. I hooked it up to an F900 at Visuals and got no joy so I think it should go back to factory!

Thanks Steve,

I'll get it checked and hopefully press it into service. How do you find it as a monitor option?
