We were out on a shoot over the last couple of days monitoring via HDMI with a cheap HD LCD when the client asked if we could use their Panasonic BT-LH1710W 17" HD-SDI monitor. I'm not sure if that is the right product number, but it was a Panasonic 17" that looks similar to the photo for this product at B&H

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the signal in/out to their Panasonic. This was the first time we've tried to do it, and my understanding is that no switching is required to get a signal out via one of the program or preview HD-SDI ports. We used the RED-supplied BNC adaptor and tried all of the HD-SDI ports, beginning with "preview," both with and without EFV and RED LCD attached together or separately. I also tried both 720 and 1080 playback resolutions and 59.94 and 50 Hz refresh rates.

I was unfamiliar with the Panasonic Monitor, so the client operated that, and I watched him go through the various input options, but I might have missed something there. The BNC cable also appeared to be connected to the correct, upper-left SDI-in port.

We will probably be working with the client in the future, so I'd like to be operational with the Panasonic Monitor, so I could use some help in getting this to work.

I can't find anything in the menus or ops guide that would enable or disable this output. Our RED ONE is on Build 17 version 3.4.1

I would sure appreciate some help on getting us up and running with the Panasonic monitor. Thanks.

Could be a problem with that particular Panasonic 17" or your RED breakout/BNC cable?! I always use these monitors from different rental houses/end users and almost always works first time it's plugged in.
I've never had a problem running the RED HDSDI output to the Panasonic BTLH1700s. Even if the camera was incorrectly set to 50i the Panny will still accept it.

I have never had a problem with my monitor hooked to the camera either.
I suspect ther mini bnc cable.

were you able to hook the monitor to another source to rule out a bad monitor?

Thanks Brian and Paul. At least I know I haven't been overlooking something painfully obvious on the camera. The mini-BNC adaptor was the one supplied with the camera, not theirs, and it's the first time it has been used. I think their BNC cable is used regularly with their monitor and their camera, so it is more likely a problem with my adaptor. I should have a back-up for the adaptor anyway, so that will be my next purchase.

By the way, does anybody have any recommended sources for a good adaptor/pig tail?

if you can get the ET breakout you wont be sorry. Full bnc connections and very sturdy

I'm trying to put a stop to new Red One accessories as the Epic and Scarlet releases approach (tick-tock). But I do notice that RED does appear to have a higher quality mini-BNC adaptor in the store now, so I think that is the way I will go for the duration.

In one of the menus there is a setting for video out or DVI out (I believe that's what it's called). For HD-SDI you need to set it to Video 720P for the output. I had this problem on a shoot a couple of weeks ago with someone else's RED. I leave mine on HD-SDI, so I forgot there was a setting.

Matthew--

Yep. Did that: it was set to Video 720P. Thanks
