i have just finished a tvc shoot and experienced some problems getting a picture out of the Scarlet HD/SDI output into the client monitor - i have got the action products apollo top plate and proteus module with V-lock battery plate, all of which are working beautifully to give me an image on my small HD DP6-SDI monitor, however nothing on the client monitor - the monitor setup was a Sony LMD232W with a MEU-WX2 multi-format engine which had a BKM-243HS digital HD/SDI input module - quite an old setup i think, but according to the hire company it was tested and working perfectly - since the shoot, in the cold light of day and under less pressure, i have tried to remedy the problem with the same result - the hire company are saying 'oh red cameras are a problem...' which i dont buy - if the output is HD/SDI surely it should work no problem with an HD/SDI monitor?? - i have changed the output between 1080 & 720 and played with the frequency also but to no avail - has anyone out there experienced a similar issue and found a solution? - i have a feeling 'get a new monitor' might be one of them!!

the camera only outputs true progressive. if the monitor only accepts PSF it won't work. some older generation monitors have issues with true progressive signals. not sure about the model you have in particular, but I've seen this case on a older sony panel and a few older panasonics.

Jim,

I had this same problem with a jimmy jib monitor, the op claimed it did 720P but I reckon it was psf, old technology. i gave him a 17" panny and it solved the situation but not before we lost 30 minutes changing out cables. I also had a similar situation with a steadicam Op's sender, same delay same result, harummph!

Hi Tom and Michael

thanks very much for the info - rather as i expected - the technology is a bit old - time to upgrade

cheers

any current generation hd sdi monitor should work these days. they are all built full compatible. the new LMD's are nice, Flander's makes great panels and have awesome customer service. their new 17 inch 10 bit monitor is really amazing. totally on par with there high end 24 inch model just smaller.

if you're willing to spend 5 grand on more I'd go with the flanders 24 inch or the sony pvm series oled. the oleds in that series come out of the box over saturated so you need to dial it down. but white point, black point, and luminance is nearly perfect straight out. only thing that sucks about them are the viewing angles. if that's an issue, I can't recommend the flanders enough.

fyi you can change the true P signal to PsF using a BMD Multibridge
