  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HD Monitor for Editing/Grading suite.

I have a 24" TV Logic which is very nice. I may hold onto it after all. I had thought about selling it but it really does give me a good look at Red footage and renting a monitor may not be the best option after all, as I'm always doing tests.

So, I can vouch for the TV Logic, which is an 8bit display that does use dithering to go from 10 to 8 bit. Worth checking out.

Wait till you see oled.....

Untill then Dreamcolor rocks the house. Love it!

Has anyone heard or tried these:
http://www.bolandcom.com/
Boland is one of the more colorful and interesting broadcast monitor manufacturers. They use wide gamut panels and leave the primaries where they are... they argue that consumer monitors are moving in this direction and that therefore we should re-evaluate what target colorimetry we should be aiming for.

(That's why I don't take em seriously. We should aim for a single color standard... otherwise it is madness and post houses will be putting out very different color.)

2- To the original poster:
See the link Mat linked to, that's my website and I have my opinion there. Pricing changes very quickly... and I think eCinema changed their model numbers (and put photos of hot chicks on their website... I think I disagree with that, but it's not as bad as Marshall putting a picture of an Australian aboriginal in their ad because their monitors do NATIVE 1920x1080... ).

3- I haven't seen the Dreamcolor but don't see what the hype is about. Of somebody who has seen a shipping model, they report that they see dithering. Supposedly the latest firmware fixes that. There's a thread in the OT forum on the dreamcolor monitor.

4- 'Pologize for digging up this zombie thread.

new Eizo cg232

new Eizo cg232

http://www.eizo.com/products/graphics/cg232w/index.asp
we did a visual test with this monitor at a grading room with a high-end Barco CRT and could also test at the same time, the same image on a new Barco TFT RHDM-2301.
When setting the Eizo at EBU, the image was exactly the same as on the standard def CRT - which showed the downconverted image. All the guy's coming to look were stunned about the quality of the Eizo CG232. The Barco TFT was also very good! ( but in my personal opinion the colors were a bit different in EBU, the Eizo matched a bit better their CRT Barco )
In the dark grading room the black of the CRT was a bit better than on both TFT's, but not by much. VERY acceptable !!! When the light was on in the room, the TFT's were more darker than the CRT ...
We also tested some images with grades to see the 10bit, and when comparing with a normal 8bit TFT , you could see artefacts on the 8bit display and none on the CG232.
Eizo provides calibration software for free - you need to buy a probe.
The monitor is already calibrated in the factory.
The price level of the Eizo is around 12.000 euro, not cheap, but for a grading monitor a very good choice, and comparing with the Grade1 competition the CG232 is 30-50% cheaper.

Just finished testing the Eizo CG232W with standard factory
calibration in ebu mode in a Baselight & Inferno suite single
link & dual link in HD & SD with 35mm (grainy 16mm), Red
footage & a Arib HD test signal i must say the images are exact
to what i was getting out of the bvm-d24 monitor, blacks just
slightly off in a darkened room but very close to "Tube Blacks".
It handled ambient well. Motion was very good with no motion
artifacts it handled the grainy 16mm footage exactly as in the
BVM. Viewing angle is also a winner.

I would like to add I am not affiliated with Eizo.
