Hi Guys and Gals -
Ive been looking around to purchase a good hazer - I dont mind spending a little more for top quality. Everything I find seems to be geared towards techno Djs and the like and Id like to get some reccomendations on some proven units.

Thanks for the advice,

Andrew

Just in case you didn't know, something some people miss is that there's a difference between a fogger and a hazer. A fogger uses a glycol mix, and a hazer uses a mineral oil mix.

Foggers are what you tend to see with low-end "smoke machines". Bar bands. DJs, etc. Hazers are what you see when you go to a really big rock show in a theatre or arena. The droplet size is smaller with a hazer, and it hangs in the air for MUCH longer.

The unit Florian mentions is a standard for film work, here's another:

Thanks for the responses - I've got a couple of follow up questions if anyone would be kind enough to jump in with the answer...

I see that the DF-50 retails for around 2500 and uses a mineral oil solution to create its droplets, while the Martin Magnum Hazer runs a little less than 1000 USD and uses a water based solution. Is there a vast quality difference justifying the price? Increased visibility of light beams using the DF-50, or perhaps capability to fill up larger venues in less time than the Magnum?

I don't need it to fill up a nightclub or anything - just want to be able to see some parallel beams in medium sized interiors. I don't mind waiting a while for the hazer to work its magic, either.

Again, thanks for the input, fellas.

You can rent the DF-50 and do some tests. See http://www.reelefx.com/index.php?c=home.welcome. IMO it is an excellent hazer. Also Ask Jim Gill who owns Reel Efx specific questions about hazers as he holds the patent on the DF-50, although he may be somewhat biased.
