  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hawk V-Lites

OK I've I've chanced on this thread....... as a Producer/Director I'm out of my depth here ...totally.

Can someone kindly educate me as to the benefit of using ano's as opposed to simply cropping the frame to the desired aspect ratio. Yes I get why Ano's were used in the early days . Yes I understand "cropping" is throwing a whole lot of pixels in a bin, but given a modern high end digital camera like RED with resolution to burn ...is this problem ?

Thanks in advance for your patience with a newbie on this topic.

P.S. Bjorn's point 3 is a dam powerful argument for Ano's . lol ; )

I was posting in another thread and thought this thread might be of interest to you Mike...

As you asked about visual quality of Ana's - the above post shows some of the nice creamy look & bokeh style - plus caveats etc.

2x V-Lites and I believe a 40-200 for some of the pursuit stuff.. 4:3 alexa-plus and 4:3 alexa-m and phantom miro 16:9. switched to 16:9 mode on the day when the director found out we were limited to 48fps.... plus he's done a few videos in this aspect ratio :) this was before v7 and 2k pro res...

I think it was just a few days later v7 camera out... my friend was prepping for imagine dragons "radioactive" video with the same alexa/v-lite combo and man, the clarity of the image is night and day! I never understood why people shot anamorphic on 16:9 alexas and end with 720p when you could shoot 5k, and it looks even softer when you throw on a poorly maintained set of vintage scopes.

However it kind of works for the swift video. You can tell they were going for texture! :)

Dang, does everyone have a couple hundred grand laying around? ha

I'd also be interested in the set, please e-mail if you get a price.

Speaking of wide shots. What lenses do you think they used in this video? It's gotta be 4:1
