Hey guys,

I'm having trouble upgrading the firmware to build 32. I'm using a SD card for the upgrade, (my only recording medium are two hard-drives).

I've followed the instructions.

*Format the card.
*Copy the "upgrade" folder to the card.
*Insert the card to the camera.
*Power up the camera

Now here I'm told the rear status display & the LCD should tell me there's new firmware. But there isn't, the camera just boots up as normal. So I guess I'm doing something wrong?

Could somebody nudge me into the right direction, pretty please :)

Hi Lewis,

a couple of quick thoughts -

- IIRC the firmware download has two different Upgrade folders, one for Win and one for Mac. At least according to the manual, it apparently is important to use the one for your computer's OS.

- also, if I'm not mistaken the format of the SD card should be FAT (i.e. for PC)

- you might also try updating with the camera on (Go to SYSTEM > SETUP > MAINTENANCE and click on UPDATE SW). Pages 115-117 of the manual have some more detail on this.

Hmm, looks like I was a bit off on the above - just double-checked and at least the zip file I have didn't have separate PC and Mac Update folders. Maybe that's how it used to be in prior releases. But the SD card I have in my camera is definitely FAT32 so that might be something to check. Does the little "SD" icon light up in your LCD screen when the card is inserted?

Hey Thomas,

I'm definitely using the correct upgrade folder. As for the format of the SD, I've tried both FAT and FAT32, and I've tried updating within the camera and I'm told there's no available update... So I'm stumped at the moment. Is it possible to upgrade via the RED DRIVE? If so I'll try that method.

I've got it :) I had an old but unopened SD card lying around, I tried it with that and it worked first time booting it up!

I seem to remember it will only work with 1gB or less SD cards or certainly not above 2gb.
