I've just bought a RED Epic but I can't edit any of the footage because my computer won't recognise the red station I'm using a Esata cable with a usb connector, should I use something else or get a firewire card for my computer please help me!!!!!!!

My computer is intel core i5 4670, 16gb ram, 120gb Ssd, 2Tb data drive, asus b85m-g USB 3.0 intel b86 sata3 7.1 HD audio socket1150 DDR3 micro atx motherboard with hdmi, dvi and d-sub, GeForce 2gb GDDr5 gtx 660 DVI, HDMI

Make sure that you use the power cable.
The Redstation does not draw power from the esata connector.

You will need an E-sata card. Startech has 2 port E-sata cards that work with most devices if you get the ones with Marvell controllers.

... Or invest into an usb3 redmag reader what might be cheaper and faster

also if you are powering your reader trough usb cable to 5V in make sure the usb port you connect to is supplying power

Not the same thing as your situation, but just to add to the knowledge base, if I turn on my RED Mag Reader (on PC) before adding force upgrade to the RED Mag, (when upgrading firmware, of course) the camera does not upgrade. If I wait and turn on the Reader after opening the firmware folder, then drag force upgrade to the RED Mag (Mini), the camera will then upgrade as expected.

Push the card in more...

Pretty sure that had nothing to do with it, but next time I upgrade I'll try turning the reader on before opening the firmware upgrade just to be sure.

The USB3 would offer the same speed or close to it as E-sata if you connect the Mag reader to an E-sata card.
