i have a huge 5 day commercial shoot coming up next week,

I am DIT on it. I am normally FCP based, clients want Avid workflow on-set. I said sure ill learn Avid by tuesday.

I figured Id take the red rushes (3.6) way. export ale, and DNxHD36 to a single folder as specified by the workflow guide on avid.com/red.

All is fine and i am able to do a "fast import" and I have audio playing also. so far so good.

THE PROBLEM:

When I press play to view the clip, the image turns into strange colors.... skin tones are green background is magenta.

Also-

- are there any issues regarding long takes? +2gb using the above workflow?

- is there any thing else I should know?

I am on (at home) a macbook, 2,4 dual core intel. 2gb ram. MC 3.5.
OS 10.5.5, internal 5400rpm harddrive half full.

EDIT: if I scrub the clip looks fine only when I press play. same if I import uncompressed HD...

best,

Sidney

So you are creating standalone DNXHD QT's and it's those that are not working?

Have you got the latest DNXHD QT codecs for mac installed - I think it's Avid Codecs LE 1.10. Try that first (download from Avid).

Avid Media Composer is unfortunately not supported on the previous macbook generation, you need a macbook pro or the new aluminum version.
The graphics chips (Intel GMA X3100) messes it up... http://community.avid.com/forums/t/68291.aspx

The thread claims that Media Composer works if you boot into Windows on your macbook. I haven't tested it...
I might have time when I get back to the office next week. A solution for OS X would be preferable.

Please tell us if you find a solution.

Mc 3.5 needs MacIntetel.

thank for your replys guys,

I read Karls link. It seems it is indeed a driver problem, regarding the mac book (even though it is Intel).

Its not a big problem as on set I will use a Macpro. I was just practicing at home on my little macbook.

So it seems the color shift is "normal".

The DNxHD workflow seems to function fine giving me a "fast import" with audio, so far so good:)

- New QUESTION:

I will be doing a rough cut on set. somtimes directors would like to have the cut sent to their editors when post starts.

What would be the correct way of exporting a sequence so it maintains the relationship to the .r3d files? (so it can be reimported and later onlined?

Just send the Avid MediaFiles folder of the already imported R3D files and the bin with your project. It will autoatically link in their project when opening.
