  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Have any Epic X owners upgraded to 3.2.8 with no issues ?

There are a couple of features on 3.2.8 that I really need so I am trying to get an idea of how successful the 3.2.8 upgrade has been? I know it is a Beta and should be treated as such, but most of the bugs so far seem to be with either installation or peripherals, Redmote, Sidehandle etc...

It is difficult within the firmware update thread to differentiate between Scarlet & Epic users so if your Epic X upgrade has been painless or otherwise I would appreciate your feedback.

No issues with the 3.2.8 upgrade so far. Knock on wood though.
The problem I had with the redmote was that it couldn't connect to my laptop.
But this instruction about RNDIS LINK really saved the day. No it's working flawless.

My first attempt was a forced upgrade and it seemed to go ok. At first I got a white LCD screen, but after a reboot that was cured. Then the Canon Mount wasn't recognised so I took it off, rebooted and then replaced it before rebooting again. After that it came up and everything seems to be ok, although my hardware revision (Epic M #1456) doesn't seem to be one of those that supports phantom power.

My upgrade went well. I did need to reset all of my navigation buttons though, but it seems to operate just fine except:
I have not been able to successfully create a look in RED Cine and bring it back into the camera.
And the shutter speed is now staying highlighted in yellow.

It its good for me. No glitches yet. Definitely more stable using the force upgrade method. It is a very promising upgrade. Love having phantom power available.

I used force upgrade and had detached my sidehandle before installing the new firmware. I did my first real test today in a (somewhat difficult) outdoor shoot. Haven't reviewed the footage yet in studio, but only issue I've noted so far was failure to transition to REDVOLT in sidehandle when V-mount ran out. Caused a hard crash. I unplugged the V-mount battery, rebooted, and except for the warning about improper shutdown, everything went smoothly again. This has been a problem with many (every?) other build, too, so it's just a lingering bug that needs attention.

I was kind of worried about about shooting midday in clear Florida sun in a place without shade (and where providing artificial shade was completely impractical). And though it's only May, it was upper 80s, and my black Pelican cases got very hot to the touch. But the camera was fine, powered up (mostly in standby) for about 2.5 hours straight. I did a number of takes at 5K 96 FPS with fan set to manual (42 record/88 standby), and no issues with overheating at all. So that was reassuring, even though no take was longer than about 2 minutes.
