  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has weight been estimated?

We all know this is going to be pretty small. But with a matte box and everything, will it be light enough that it might make way for a cheap and simple steadicam? I've never used one before, so forgive the ignorant question. All I know about them is that they are too much money for me.

I'm betting it will be light enough to be able to be configured for use with a Steadicam Merlin. Perhaps not with a matte box and a big cine lens. But I'm making an assumption that you probably won't set your Scarlet up that way given your comment about steadicam prices.

So, that said, the Merlin and Scarlet could be a nice affordable combo.

This is a good question, I am curious if my Manfrotto Tripod and head will support the Scarlet fixed. I am hoping it comes in around 5-6lbs max.

KO

From what I can gather, you will be able to strip it back to accomplish this, but if you want full modules and a few hours of battery, you should bet on 10-15 pounds.

If you bring it back to brain, lens, single battery (50 minutes or so) and CF card, you may accomplish 6-10 pounds all up, depending on the lens.

I think ultra lightweight will make Zeiss ZFs on a Nikon mount very popular. Very light compared to cine lenses and look damn good.

I am hoping the 2/3" Fixed Scarlet with an SSD module of somekind, and maybe an extra battery module will suffice. We'll know more soon!

Nikon or Canon Glass??

Nikon or Canon Glass??

How do you know its 3lbs????

I too hope there is a way to scale down the weight and get it on the Steadicam Merlin....that would be very cool. And of course an SSD to hold over an hour of video is key for me.

Which do people like better for the interchangeable....Canon glass or Nikon glass? Is one considered better than the other purely for glass?

We are using the Steadicam Pilot (max. weight 10 lbs).
The Epic brain is about 6lbs so I doubt the scarlet is around 3lbs.
The battery module looks rather large. The grip isn't an alternative because of the balance. Another problem is the monitor. The Pilot has component, scarlet SDI or HDMI.
Is there a fix?

take a look at this table:

hmmmm ... take a small converter???

Gerald, is it possible to convert HDMI-> Component in a box small enough so I can attach it to the steadicam. Does it need power?

EDIT: Is it legal to convert HDMI to component? Or can I better go for HD-SDI? BTW I think it's a composite signal.
