  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone tried an Easyrig with your Red One?

You know, I met these guys at NAB in 2006 and I was awestruck with this support system, but at the time I only had an HVX200 and it seemed like overkill for my needs.
I have since tried shoulder mounts, but I am six foot seven and a bit heavier than Jarred, so they didn't work very well for my little narrative endeavors. I'm too tall to keep the camera at the eyeline of my actors (short people. All of them). I always end up dumping the thing and going handheld.
Now I'm going to get a Scarlet S35, and I'm expecting it to be heavier than my HVX, so I'm looking at this product again.
I think it's just great because you can use the camera on your shoulder OR drop it down to your side or just about anywhere you can control it.
What do you experts think? Have any of you tried it?

thanks for any input!

MIKE

I have an EasyRig 2 (not even 2.5) and it works great. The piston inside is presently a bit underrated, so it takes only about 20lbs. off my shoulder - but that's enough to be able to go handheld all day and not die. For about $195, 16x9 will replace my piston so it's fully rated for a 35-45lb. configuration. If you're in the LA area, I'll let you come by my office to check out any time you'd like. I shot this with it: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25343

I posted a video on here after NAB 2008 that's shot from my camera using a newer Easy Rig - I had the camera fully built out with a Cooke 20-100 on it, and it felt like I had nothing on my shoulder. Check it out: http://www.redrelay.net/owners/1190/films/EasyRigSmall.mov

Hey Big Mike.

Yep same here, I have used the Red many a time in fact im on their website lol and Johan has given me the ONLY Red Coloured Easyrig in the world at the moment. (At least that's what he told me last time i spoke with him)

I have the 700N Cimema 3, it will take the weight of a moderately laiden camera, we had a MB16 3 stage MB and a FF3 and the weight of the Red on it and he held very well on a Music Video in Amsterdam last month. Works well for most applications i need it for.

Ive attached some stills.

We use the Easyrig all the time and love it. Just remember it is not for walking around while shooting, it actually makes it harder to stabilize while walking but takes the weight off when standing still. I have used it on a Segway with pretty good results.

Also the Red handle is almost too fat for it's hook and other handles like the ET cheese stick work better. It does work fine with the Red handle but just barely and could pop off if your not careful. Use the safety strap.

Love the easyrig, I first used it on fast food nation, then brought it onto Friday night Lights, now all the operators use one. If you're going to use it on the red, then get the top handle extension from the red store and cut the rubber off the handle, it'll make it a lot easier to mount and won't slip off the back. It's not a steadicam but it'll make your back happy.

The EasyRig offers a RED Handle designed specifically for the RED camera.

Have had a good experience with the Atlas Camera Support -- www.atlascamerasupport.com -- similar in concept, but much more affordable.

Rig it with the stiffest available rod to take most of the weight of the Red off my shoulder and onto my hips -- the difference between being able to shoot hand-held for five minutes and an hour.

I just got in from a 12 hour brutal day 100+ shots all hand held Red! I would have been crushed by lunch without my EzRig!!!!! It lifts 30+ lbs off my shoulder and puts it on my hips. The cable is long, I can easily shoot from under my arm or at my waist level!

I know it is expensive, but it is worth every penny! How much is your back and shoulder worth? I wish I bought it earlier. I have permanent scar tissue in my back and shoulders from shooting news handheld. It hurts every day of my life and I am only 39. I wish I had it 17 years ago.

EzRig will ad 10 to 20 years to my career!

Indispensable with the red! The only annoying thing is that they don`t have a proper quickrelease system as we had to fight each time when mounting/unmounting the hook to the red handle which is quite thick - the opposite issue arose in combination with the Arri 435 / 16 SR2 / 16 SR3 as those cameras have really thin and/or "open" handles.

I did not know they made a handle just for the red. can I get that at 16x9? That's where I got my easyrig back in the F900 days.

Cut the rubber off the red handle and it'll work great. If it's not your camera, you could get a handle from red just for easyrig mounting. The top handle extension or some form of stopper is essential, though, as the camera can slip off the rig without it.

Or, EasyRig offers a specific clamp adapter for the RED handle.

The part # is: ERIG-EA-121
Price: $138.

I use the EasyRig all the time for hand held. My back is really messed up (auto accident), and I can hand hold the Red all day long with my EasyRig.

If you use a small grip clip behind the EasyRig mount, it works just fine.

Very affordable! Are you the one in the website photos shooting the Red? That rig looks much heavier than 24 lbs.

Do you use it to just take weight off your shoulder or truely use it like you would use an easy-rig (let the rig hold all the weight and just guide it to get a smooth shot)
