Last day I was shooting a SPA commercial and there was a treatment to remove hair permamently :clown2: wich used some laser light. We had to wear special blue glasses not to be hurt by the strong light.

I didn't dare to point the camera to the light source...:cold:

So my question is : are there any type of light that should not come in contact with any CMO (and the RED one)?

Thanks for your advices and real life tests.

Any one shot the sun for hours?:usd:
Any one got his CMO burned out by any mean?

I think someone, in some past thread on this board or another, mentioned that a laser should never be shined directly into the lens, because it will concentrate into a small point on the CMOS and ruin it. This applies to weak lasers too, so perhaps a strong laser's reflection might also cause damage? Tough call. Maybe you could put a filter over the lens that would block a majority of the laser light but still let a small amount through?

Shooting the sun is usually done with a filter over the lens. Direct sunlight for an extended period of time can cause damage to the sensor. Actually, shooting the sun without filtration for an extended period of time can also cause damage to the camera lens.
