hello,

i read the manual and it is insufficient. i'd like the technical information of the RAW PORT™ Option High speed serial interface.

thanks

hey Galexander, The RAW PORT has been discontinued due to lack of demand and interest, we are developing a more viable (and affordable) solution that everyone should be more excited about, and eliminated the need for an expensive ($200,000) external recording box.

The RAW PORT has been removed from the Red Store for awhile now.

:mail1:
Is it something in connection with multilane, port multiplier, infiniband or you can not tell us anything at all ?

Cheers

This is great news! I hope it makes higher bitrates available and faster framerates and/or just a redudant recording while still recording to another storage device (ie, the new port has a cf slot so it can record out to a recorder by red and to the cf at the same time)

:detective2: Hmm.... anyone want to speculate?

maybe just LESS compression - if it looks THIS good at 27 what does it look like at 300MB/s - 350MB/s ??? out the dual HDSDI?

most raid configs these days are always faster than 300-350MB/s - maybe pipe it through the KONA3 ??

HOWEVER - BIG ASS RAM BUFFER with gigabit ethernet off load would be the logical move - ala the ill-fated CINERAM

This comes to a big surprise to me, as I have the absolute need for higher frame rates to create ramping in most of my current projects under development I was wryly looking forward to it.

However Jarred I still see the $6,500 Raw port module and a $2,500 Optical Fiber cable for sale at the RED store in the Digital Media section which I had almost ordered but decided not to for now and just first play and learn with #349 via the CF.

So it is the same in Q? that will be removed or is that still part of the new set up mentioned to eliminate the $200,000 recording external box?

From what I've gathered, "Crossing the Line" was shot using a customized RED with a RAW port interface (someone correct me if I'm wrong). What about Soderbergh's current projects and the feature "Wanted"? What interface are/have they using/used?

Crossing the Line was very early REDCODE to hard drive. The Soderberg movies were more modern REDCODE to CF card.

CTL was shot with some drives Jarred and I hacked together Gtech drives using either 10k or 7k drives (3.5" and 2.5" drives).

Sodergberg shot with only 8GB CF (see the post elsewhere about 200 CF cards for sale)

This is so cool!!! Please make it a solution were you just "swap" from existing CF solutions (if it's possible). Change module or similar. That was the main reason for me to not order the RAW port. I would have if it was possible to use both solutions.

Thanx

Wow this sounds very exciting! teasing always teasing you Red ones.

My guess is a solid state RAID drive to replace the RedDrive that has a higher record rate around the 100MBps mark. That way people could maybe shoot onboard 4K@60fps+... warm... cold? I think there are a number of people hoping the "Key" is to unlock faster 4K redcode raw fps, so it stands to reason there should be a means of recording that extra information given that CF cards only just fit all the info on in time.
