This could be the solution for backing up Red drives or CF cards in the field.

Capacities all the way up to 1TB. No bus power though.

I've got one of these and I'm going to buy another one when i get my red. I recommend them. There is a difference between the silver version and the black version, but i cant remember what it is.

Silver is software RAID and I've used these and although they are a good product there can be software problems that the Hardware RAIDs simply do not have.

Here's hoping the weibetech peoples come out with an RTX 2 disk chassis:

Would be ideal, with the cute handle etc. The 100 has every useful interface, which is great - you could actually use two of these with a little SATA PCIe card and run softraid or apple's crap. Nice n' fast, and you can get 24TB in a small static shielded pelican that's carryon legal :)

I too would be inclined to use a hardware raid...

That's a bit more expensive but can use trays, which is very nice. GTech's stuff is overpriced but excellent. I've never had a drive of theirs fail on me. Can't say that for many other vendors, though I hear S.Two has (still) a pristine reputation except for one instance of someone intentionally dropping a "mag" to be an a**hole and prove a point ;)

I saw at Fry's today:

AMS Venus DS3R - FW800, dual hot-swap PATA, RAID0/1, rebuilds 2nd drive from primary, $150

500gb Maxtor PATA, 7200rpm, 16mb cache - $100 (new sales each week)

$350 total for a 1TB drive system.

Load up two drives, post with them, store them, repeat...
