I found a stable, inexpensive way to shoulder mount the RED ONE, and thought I would share with other RED USERS and Low/No Budget Filmmakers.

---------- At my local bicycle store I bought ----------
1 Bicycle handle bar (I bought the Cruiser model) @ $16.99.
2 Stems (I bought the Devinci model) @ $16.99 Each.
2 Shims to properly mount the stems @ $2.99 Each.
1 Pair of rubber grips (To hold on to) @ $9.99.
A little bit of help from the salesman to make sure everything is stable $FREE.

----------------------- THEN -----------------------

I mounted everything together and looked in my yellow pages under Machine Shops and started Calling.

“Hi, I’m looking for a piece of bushing about 1 inch long, inner wall is 19mm diameter and outer is 1 and 1/8 Inch. Can you make something like that out of brass or aluminum?” “OK, I’m coming down right now and I’ll bring everything to show you.”

I showed him what I needed and he made me 2 pieces of Brass with a slit on each one in about 2 hours for $40.00 Cash.

So, for a total of 110 Dollars Canadian including taxes, I'm Cruising with an extremely stable Handheld Shoulder Mount for my RED ONE Camera.

Anyone planning to try something like this just becareful which handle bar you use. Talk to the salesman to make sure it's a stable solution.

Have fun shooting.

Necessity is the mother of invention. A great idea.

I'll bet somewhere there are some Harley handlebars that would go well with the whole "bad attitude" of the Red. Ape hangers anyone? ;-)

This is the most ghetto RED setup I have seen!

Looks like the LCD is a bit to close though.

Awesome!

Pimp my RED or what?!!!!!

LCD is a little close.

I'm planning to visit the machinist again to have him drill out a screw hole on the Bicycle Stem so I would be able to screw in the LCD Arm on it and then position it as needed. Cable length should work fine.

Something like this.

I prefer the BirnsGear handles that go on the Rods, they use rosettes and a 5-piece design that's low profile, although expensive. They don't have pictures on their site yet though.

BirnsGear handles look cool, although I'm not sure they can handle a 25 Pound RED.

Can they?

Yep, they use strong arri-rosettes, made for heavy film cameras, and they support the RED much better than the RED made handles.

Birns both rents and sells them and I used them on a 6 day shoot with no problem.

Edit: and two days we used them with a Cooke 18-100 zoom, no problem.

That must have been one bad bike crash that inspired that one. Good job dexter, very cool:>
