Hi everyone, I need a quick fix on footage and please contribute any know hows to help me.

There are some clips which were shot with 48 frames over 24 with rather faster shutter speed for nice slow motion effect but the director wants to use the clip with normal speed. By speeding up 200% to make it back to normal speed would result in bad jaddering.

I tried with flickering removal and motion blur but they didn't look that good.

Is there any special way to make this one to look acceptible?

Should I put the clip back to half speed then apply those effects, render, then speed it up would make it look better, less jaddering?

Please help.

If you are using flicker removal, than you're issue might be related to lighting rather than speed. That kind of problem is thought to fix in post, but After Effects does have a filter to make highlights and shadows consistent.

If you shot with a narrower than 180degree shutter at 48fps and now are playing back every other frame you will have a very noticeable narrow shutter effect.

There is a fix that may work on your footage (but may not). It would involve creating motion blur where there is very little.

http://www.revisionfx.com/products/rsmb/ this is tool that I have seen work. There are other solutions

It is not a trivial task... Might be better managing the directors expectations than committing to fix a problem that is only subjectively so..

good luck

Thanks all to the advice,

Michael, that's exactly the problem and the motion blur in FCP doesn't really satisfy me, so I will give it a try!

If it doesn't work out he wants to use slowmo as slowmo but involves re-redting, so.

victors,

The problem is jaddering and I thought the flicker removal could help a little but guess not.

Michael, that plug-in is far better than FCP's stock motion blur, doesn't defocus the places you don't want. The doc says maybe some issues on FCP loading the plug-in on IntelMac but I never had any problems.
