Honestly I don't know If that would play 5k real time!
I have a:
I7-3820
GTX 670 2gb
32Gb RAM
Windows 7
PP CS6

It will play RED ONE footage in 1/2 Resolution!

My Next Bulid:
i7-3930k @ 5Ghz
GTX Titan
32Gb RAM
Windows 7
PP CS6

I know that a 3930k with a GTX 680 will only play 5k in 1/2 Resolution.

Thanks Adam,

I'm not necessarily looking to play back 5k at full res. Simply edit, grade and render to 4k/2k/HD at a reasonable speed.

With a good OC you should be able to work reasonably well in 1/4 res. (A bit above 2k when editing 4k.)

I actually own a hackintosh with almost the same stuff :
I7 3930k oc 4.3ghz
32go Ram
GUI GTX640 2go
CUDA GTX 670 2go
SSD 256 go
4TO Raid 0

and i can play a constant 24fps 4K half res debayer (both in CS6 and Resolve)

Did you have any difficulties with the i7 3930k? No issues running or installing Mountain Lion?

No issue to install the I7, the only thing to do is to patch ML with a specific kext to activate all the core. If you choose the right mobo there is no difficulties to run ML (i choose a gigabyte motherboard).

Hi,
I am new to Red One but I already built the recommended hack from nofilmschool.....I can see the recomendation has changed a bit since originally the hack pro was using a GTX-580 graphic card.
My current configuration is the following:
GA-Z77X-UTP-TH motherboard
i7-3770K
EVGA GTX 580 1024 MB graphic card
16 GB DDR3
ScanDisk SSD 120 GB SATA 6.0

I can confirm that this configuration is working, I have the latest Mountain Lyon and everything is OK.
I am able to run 2K continuously in premiere but 4K was too much.....anyway, even with 4K premiere didn't crash, just stoped, then jump to another part and so on.

This machine is working great and the total cost was around 1,300 USD (I saved some money buying some used parts from ebay).
I would also like be able to run 4K continuously, and i think I will probably buy another graphic card and use it in parallel with the GTX-580 (I have to re-check if the lastest Multibeast will allow this option), anyway, if someone find another solution please do not forget to share it.

I am also looking into building a new system, but im going to wait till the very last min as to make sure i get the latest and newest equipment. I have zero desire to buy the new rocket..way to expensive, plus id say 90% of my jobs are alexa
