watch the whole thing if you like but you can skip to the conclusion http://youtu.be/pTmj6NoByz0?t=17m51s

it really worries me to see video's like this, not that people are not entitled to freedom of speech BUT.......

i have shot with both and yes own a scarlet soon to be dragon:) but I can say I categorically disagree with everything this fella said,

is the bmpc better in every way to the red scarlet? :)

so the black magic production camera is:

1: better in low light
2: easier to grade
3: better audio
4: better DR
5: more affordable
6: better battery options

the list goes on and on and on

That guy doing the review on the vid is so pro BM, I've seen other reviews and he claims the usra is on par with red epic.
His whole argument is based on price but claiming it has better DNR...????

Fanboi's... they're all the same.

Yeah, I can see right through that guy. Super bias. I could spend all day picking at his methods, lack of constants, and bad choices but I think we are all on the same page here. Some of what he says is true, some of what he says is true only when you look at it from a certain perspective. Some of it is not true. What can you do?

I think we are all guilty of drinking the koolaid sometimes and defending our lady... I mean, RedUser has a reputation of users being a little too aggressively pro-Red sometimes, and I can safely say I try to suppress my inner Cooke-fan-boy and stay objective. That said, this is pretty blatant on what his opinion is and I think it obviously bleeds into his test and perverts it past the point of professional objectiveness. It crossed the line from a camera test to a paid advertisement. I've seen this happen many times. It's not unique. Very common someone buys a professional level, yet lower tier product and do everything they can to rationalize or convince others it's just as good as the higher tier product.

If I had a dime for every time a producer tried to convince me to use photography lenses versus cinema lenses, I'd be rich! We all fight the good fight with producers on gear, but it certainly doesn't help when people post videos like this one which just give the producers more ammo. But thankfully the world has many more objective tests than this.

I clicked on the link, which started mid-clip. I almost spit my drink all over my keyboard when the video cut to him talking. That hair! That passion!

Looks like covert marketing from BMD to me... I'd suspect that to be far more likely than it being a true fanboy video.

so you're accusing him to be biased? look at yourselves guys. You're judging his abilities to differenciate by his beard and his hairstyle? This guy HAS both cameras. Do you? i looked at the footage in 4K on my LG31MU97 4K monitor and i'm sorry to say that he has a point on sharpness, Noise and price. so how can you "categorically disagree with everything this fella said" ? I actually own/owned both of these cameras aswell and i pretty much agree with him. It's ok... you don't have to be offended. it's a new camera. why shouldn't it be better? technology moves forward.

Maybe, tell your producer to get through their day with a Nokia instead of their iphone 6+, or to switch over to Dial-up from ADSL.

Relax buddy. I made a joke about his hair. Had nothing to do with my disagreement with some of his statements. If anything, I said he was right on some of his points. I've likely taken part in 20 camera tests in my life and watched 5x as many. I can tell you if an unbiased and knowledgeable test was his aim, he didn't score very high in the annals of camera test history. Yes, I took a low-blow joke at the end there. Probably wasn't very nice, but that hair! That is some hair.

I'll apologize for the hair joke.

just in case you didn't know the ursa is the best 4k camera on the planet :) http://youtu.be/W3s_4MKOF9A?t=21m23s

i love my red (will love it more when it turns up:) but i don't think its perfect for every job, no such thing and correctly said tech moves forward but

this guys is 1 of a 1000 bloggers preaching opinion as fact!

Well he's got some points on prices and stuff but as far as the technical details he's sounds very uneducated. Not judging his abilities on his looks but damn that haircut!

Sometimes things don't translate so well on Internet boards.

My my joke was more toward the OP and thread title. :)

there were some inaccuracies. He declined to mention that redvolts are 195 not 250. He also left out that you can power an epic with a vmount battery. If he used the Vmount he used on his bmd on the epic he would get a few hours from it. Etc.

no need to break this one down too much, but I agree that it is a low level marketing video.

^Yeah that's not really me. I removed the last joke but left the apology.

i was joking, i thought it was funny, put it back!!

i am english so sarcastic, its not a virtue that translates to forums:)

I like how at around the 5 minute mark he talks about the dynamic range. Notice he shoots the RED at a slightly different time of day when the trees are plagued with shadows. Of course the RED will appear to have less dynamic range without the sun shining on the trees.

Lol... BM4K is much better value than Red Scarlet.

The more features you add, the premium you start paying for each gets astronomical. With cheap cameras like the A7s, NX-1, or GH4 being as incredibly capable as they are today, I think you have to be damn sure you know exactly what Scarlet gives you that those cameras don't - and that you actually need whatever that is. I can certainly understand how the target audience of those cameras could fail to see the point in a Scarlet. You'd think the users of cameras like the BMPC or FS7 might be a little more savvy, though.
