Do any other REDUSERS use a hackintosh?

I use one and I prefer it to my Mac Pro Trashcan. I personally like the ability to be able to upgrade my computer when new hardware comes to market like the new 10 series and Titan GPU's that Nvidia have introduced.

If you do have a Hackintosh post your set up so other people who are thinking about trying it can see what works.

My setup:

Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Series
Displays: 2 x LG 34UC88 34" Curved
OS: Yosemite and Window 10

* I haven't had any problems with running Adobe CC or REDCINE-X PRO.

*2011 systems are much harder to Hack but time spent setting it up comes with a great reward.

My best suggestion is to take a look at some of the builds that people have posted on the Hackintosh reddit page. I know I've seen a couple people run linux and OS X on the same machine. They will also have good advice for you on what parts go with what the best and if you have any other trouble shooting questions, someone will usually answer them really fast.

I have been using and building a hackintosh and working with red and arri footage for about 6-7 years now. No major problems ever.
However, i am starting to see a limit. Not because of the hardware but because of the OS.

The fastest speed ram config, video card configs and some awesome motherboard features don't work.
SLI is one. not being able to use built in network solution forces the use of a pci slot.
you are partly restricted to macOS supported parts.

I am getting close to go PC. But will probably still get the new mac pro if it's updates because i do need it on set.

Not sure what you mean, but to me a Hackintosh is a custom built computer that runs the Mac OS. It's just like building a custom PC but instead of running windows it runs a Mac OS X or it runs both OS X and Windows

I am currently running a hack I built using guides from TonyMacx86. Really amazing resource.

Note that in most cases, you will first need to load Windows to install the Thunderbolt drivers into the MoBo. Then you can wipe and then continue with your normal hack build. It does take a bit to get a stable build running and figure out all the kinks, but once you do it's amazing.

Also note that OSX does not currently support any Pascal GPUs so your proposed 1070 will be a non-starter until NVIDIA releases a new web driver.

EDIT: oh and also make sure you have another machine that works well for you until you have your build working flawlessly. I had to constantly swap back to my MBP during projects when something went down. Eventually you'll figure it out and not need it save for a really rare event. Also, don't update right away on anything. Keep it stock and stay a few months behind. Let others do the testing.

I was having a go at Apple hacking to death the third party Mac market.

I can work on concepts and communicate privately. Got form style and function in my head (come up with the design last week, running around trying to catch up with things since rsthr than commuting them to paper) but you these things it is just a matter of fashion.

Been running a Hackintosh for almost 3 years now with not many problems.

Intially after the build I ran into a few problems with drivers but found answers pretty quickly on TonyMacx86 and got it going well.

The only other kind of pain is when you try to update OS, but I always make a bootable clone of my harddrive before the update in case something screws up.

Really I was not familiar with building a computer before all this but can't speak highly enough about the guides and forums at Tonymacx86! give it a try.

Tyler, looks like one of my case design wishes has already come true. I cantbremembet if I iriginalky come up with this particular one, or saw it somewhete else. But my version would be a bit more conventional, with a much beefier base box to take a good CPU and multiple GPU cards:

As you can see you can make something like a compact cube case on it's side, with protruding arms with vesa mount and tilt mounts in each end, coming from the case. Now, you can put a short depth or deep depth blade there, or beefy rectangle box section, or other than holds the screen steady. So really it is a pro studio version of Microsoft Surface studio above, and you can add any screen you want that can fit stably on the mount, rather thsnbwhat they give you.
