  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hacking it!

The best hackers for the RED cameras are... the RED team! Seriously, if there is a way to squeeze more out of the camera it would come from RED.
Have to disagree, the guys at Magic Lantern are more than capable of doing that, only they haven't done that yet because they are going to get in legal troubles with Red..

You missed the point. He wasn't saying that ML guys wouldn't be capable of hacking the firmware, he's saying it wouldn't be necessary because Red doesn't cripple their cameras the way Canon does.

I could be wrong, but isn't the lack of Anamorphic mode on the Scarlet proof that they cripple the camera somewhat? Again I'm not saying that they're keeping anything else from us, but I can't see how anamorphic mode isn't available on the Scarlet due to hardware limitations.

In terms of recording the media, I agree with you. In terms of taking the image in, and processing it out through the EVF/LCD/HDMI/SDI port in a de-squeezed form? That could be where the bottleneck lies. Kind of hard to shoot if you don't have a good viewing solution. I don't know that that is the case, but certainly 1 possibility. These things are rarely as "simple" as they seem on the surface.

Hi,
I can't believe ANA mode is not possible on the Scarlet. It's just a software limitation.
Let's hope RED guys will enable it in the future.
