  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GSTABI H10 - GROUPBUY - NEW HANDHELD STABILIZED GIMBAL works with EPIC

Tonaci and I got to visit Gremsy here in Saigon the other day and they are a really amazing group of guys. They are pushing the envelope on this gimbal technology and coming out with incredibly useful updates very quickly.

Here is a badass little feature they demoed for Tonaci and I...it is good timing because this iPad app just got approved and is in the Apple App store as of yesterday!

Not only can you control the settings of the gStabi from your iPad now, you can actually control the pan and tilt by panning and tilting your iPad! So cool to see in person. Check out the video:

Hi Elizabeth Lowrey,
Probably one of our customer will bring H14 to NAB 2014 and you can check it out.

Thanks for the reply. Can you be more definite about that? Is there someone specific here on REDUser that you are talking to about showing a unit and, if so, at what booth? The biggest reason for me to spend the money to go to NAB this year is to look at gimbals/stabilizers, and the new Gistabi is high on my list of products I'd like to compare in person. So I need fairly firm information about availability of it (and a couple of others) before I can make an informed decision. Thanks in advance for your help.:-)

Hi,
Rory Hinds on REDuser is the person to bring H14 along, he doesn't hava a booth but will be walking around to show it up.
You can contact him in advance to arrange how to meet him at NAB
Regards

Yikes, the price just rose by over $800! Still competitive, and I like the iOS integration.

Wow, that's too bad. I hadn't even had a chance to see the unit at NAB before they upped the price. Since it's not even a shipping model yet and was already priced a good bit beyond their last model, I never would have guessed the hike was coming so soon.

Hi,
We made 2 clips within 1 day so there is something not perfect yet and our preparation was not so good.
Our next clips will be more careful planning and will be better.

Measure twice . . . cut once

One more footage:

I hate to point it out, but as much as I love the fast pans, and not abusing the"crotch shot" because of the camera height, this video has a level problem. The right side is lower by a few degrees in the roll axis. In every one of the shots. I hope that can easily be dialed in, and was an oversight.

Hey Daniel,

I have a Gstabi, and this is something that I am trying to figure out too (x axis not balanced 100%). I shot a few jobs on this unit already and I can never seem to dial in the roll axis enough to make the horizon plain properly. When walking/ running with the unit straight looking forward it works well, but as soon as we are using the unit plaining sideways the roll axis swings heavily off balance.

I will post a fun little project we shot on the unit, but we haven't figured out how to work around this issue as of yet.

Well, that is a big issue!
As an old school Steadicam operator, I'm wanting to embrace the technology, I swear!:) but I'm having a hard time. I have operated the Movi on a few instances, and each time I was wishing for my rig.
I understand that this is another tool on the belt, and I can imagine a lot of cool shots with it, but this roll issue is a big deal to me. It stands out like a sore thumb to me, since I have been fighting that issue daily for the better part of 20 years doing Steadi.

If your Roll arms aren't at 90 degree (the arms that connect from the Roll bar and reach out and hold the Tilt axis) you'll have issues with gaining correct Roll balance.

If you're not getting a straight horizon then you need to re-calibrate your sensor on a flat surface. I mount my Epic from the top so its then easy to just place the camera on a table and have the gimbal loose and not moving.

Hi, the level is pretty easy to dial in the software. we have Trim horizon feature in which we can fine adjust the level without re-calibration the accelerometer. However when we made that shot, by checking the level via small RED monitor, we though it was level but it wasn't. We better check the level carefully on a large monitor next time.Because of our fully heavy camera setup with not so flexible RED monitor cable, the gimbal operater had some stress on his arm and shoulder and could not made the shot perfectly and sometimes he got hit something around
