The reason I ask is because, being in Europe and having the company shipping from Hong Kong for instance, means that currently with only a 10% discount once you factor in shipping costs and import duties the price might actually be HIGHER depending on where you are than if you just purchased it from a local distributor. Yes, that's right, higher. People might want to consider this. This is why I am quite sure too, that Tilta has more room to offer than a 10% discount. Because they most certainly have to offer more to their distributors. YET this group buy goes far beyond what most distributors even order. (And frankly Chris just as an aside I would hope that you are at least getting a unit for free, you deserve it for the quantity of business you are bringing to them - I mean that sincerely).

Perhaps these units will ship from a US location and then people in the US won't have to worry about this (as a side note I would strongly suggest that somebody look up what import duties are from Hong kong to the US if it is not the case) but here in Europe we would like to know if it will be received through a distributor. Otherwise, the only advantage of the group buy at the current discount is receiving the units a little earlier. Currently, the final cost of receiving the unit in the France will be 1429,79€ based on equivalent mail delivery rates and import duties. Which means that members here have saved exactly 20€.

What Tilta is getting in return is a first production run which is already assured and taken care of as a result, and believe me that is no small thing.

OK. So that means that right now, with the 10% discount US customers of this Group Buy will be paying $1225 after shipping and duties. Which is actually $25 MORE than if they just bought it from a US retailer at the regular price.

I certainly think you have a strong argument for Tilta, that they can make more of an effort than this, for a 400 strong group buy.

Just sayin.

If you check with Pitney Bowes duty calculator, that is unfortunately not the case. The duty tax on the follow focus is 5.8% if you plug in the values.
