  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - Tilta Gravity Gimbal

Are we able to run our own cables through the rig?

Seeing as we're only one away and people have discussed ordering sooner, wanted to ask you Chris if we can wait until that first week of Sept to post payment. Part of my plan to purchase included waiting until at least Sept 5th to send payment. Don't want to hold up the GB but for me to make it work I have to wait an extra week or so. That being said, I'm 100% in for the gravity.

Any word if its good?

In terms of vertical stabilization its way superior. In terms of control of the tilt and Panning the Gimbal is way superior. In terms of size and due to the fact that the arm and vest are designed for a different purpose and not a gimbal, the arm sticks out on the side quite a bit. In terms of value and modularity its way superior as 1) you can use it with a steadicam sled and you have a good ligtweight steadicam, 2) you can re-sell this easier than any exoskeleton as the company makes legit equipment for over many decades.

the construction over all of the arm could be better and its on the cheap side, but, still, its performance is as linear as you can get. That means booming any of the specified weight with the minimum effort at the total boom range. So no matter what ....it works well. My only consideration is side size and doorways , but there are work arounds.

This is actually a wise choice from Carrey.

my 2 cents

Back mount steadi vest like Klassen requires less effort and specialized back strength than front mount like Steadicam or Pro. Wonder if same physics apply here? Many operators have both for different situations....

Please put me down for the gravity and armorman 2 please, only with max discount.

Questions:
1. Assuming that we can mount a dovetail plate and then use standard red dsmc quick release dovetail mounting options?
2. Is there a lemo to sdi adapter so that we could use a dsmc 1 red touch monitor on the handle bars?
3. Failing that what would be the best price / performance (weight being a big one) SDI monitor for the handle bars. I had a average Ikan one for the Ronin M, specs were great but impossible to use in daylight...
4. Anyone have experience with the Armor Man 2? As a single operator can I operate one handed to adjust focus?

Thanks Chris, nice group buy for sure!

Can't say for sure but looks on paper like you are the magic number 30!!

IMHO the Red monitor mount is great for gimbal use because you can easily tweak it during a shot. IDK if there are work arounds for cabling through Gravity's internal SDI but there are hyperflex cables available if you chose to bypass the internal SDI. As for myself, Small HD 702, obtained through another excellent Chris M group buy, does the job: easily viewable in full daylight with no hood, and light weight.

In the "Armor Man 2 vs Ready Rig" thread, Bjorn Benckert posts some nice pics which show Armor Man 2, with DJI FF unit mounted on the cross bar. He says he can pull focus "while doing a smooth move."

Nice! Glad to be of service.

Rigged mine up yesterday with weapon, otus 28, full size matte box, filters, 180wh brick, focus motor, wireless transmitter, etc. Just to see how she would do. The gimbal worked flawless, also in upright mode. My back on the other hand. Not a chance.

Brody how does the Gravity compare to the Ronin? Especially for beginners/simple setups?

Were you testing with no additional support? Totally to be expected if so. I've moved to using an EasyRig with Serene arm to keep the back OK (seen too many DPs and OPs pull a muscle or risk throwing a disc out). Exciting to hear you felt like it held up. Any pics/video/additional thoughts?

Not entirely true. The thing with vests front or back mounts is that they have many factors that make them better or worst , and after their construction and ergonomic design, it comes your body structure that can fit or not fit well with them even if they are the best out there. The Back mounts in terms of physics distribute the load better since you have more weight that act as a counterweight at the back, and the steadicam arms also are a little more back in terms of weight distribution so that makes a little but of different feel, but the most difference is how you fit inside each vest. I for one, do not fit well in a WK due to my body structure and the WK gives me great pain in my lower back. So before it comes to a point that I can see if there is a benefit, I already am in agony. On the other hand the exo vest feels very comfortable in front mount or back mount position. Bottom line that matters is that you test and find out if a vest is good for you or not. Do not take the word from anyone else. Get in there and test it. Then you ll know.

Nick, Brendan, To me it is the Ronin V3. No horizon drift. Its similar in size, but can handle more weight, It is similarly a large gimbal. It has many more aux connectors/options for accessories which gave me everything I needed to easily power everything, and cleanly rig for wireless. It seems to respond more smoothly, or more in control, probably because of the motors weight load abilities, it is hard to get it to break a position if balanced properly. Balancing is better than any other gimbal I have use, simply because of the fine screw adjustments for each axis. I haven't tried the mimic controller yet. I am still waiting on the thumb controller that is coming out in the next month or so, definitely miss that. The ability to adjust the length of the arms is awesome, its very stable and real easy with precise markings for even adjustment to each side. I must say I haven't had a bunch of time with it yet, been out of town without the rig, but with short term testing it has impressed so far. Its pretty dope, definitely would recommend it.

I did use my Ready Rig after about 2 mins of messing with it without. It was too much weight even with the RR for me to be effective for a shoot, I mean it was pretty darn heavy with everything attached. I think it was about 7 pounds beyond my comfort zone. Rigged it the same today without Matte box, and brick attached to my vest, and I would be tired but could definitely do a days work with that.

Interesting. Do you know roughly your total weight? Or even just payload? I'm guessing I'll be keeping most of my rigs around or under 22lbs/10kgs (including the gravity). Thanks for all the extra info!

As soon as I get back (Tuesday, in France right now ) I'll address your other questions, add those to the list (think we hit 30), and hopefully get Tilta to accept early orders so the gravity can get into your hands. Been long days over here and I've got another early call time tomorrow for the final day of production.

Wouldn't it be better to wait for 50, before we all pull the trigger? I really think we can do it. We can get another battery with 50 orders.
