  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - SmallHD 702 Series Monitor

I have to give kudos to SmallHD, they made good on my monitor. I had a dead pixel and a small scratch on the screen. The unit worked perfect other then that. Super quick turn around for the warranty work. I love this monitor for what I do.

Here is my setup with the Edelkroe slider I just picked up also

I am thinking about ordering one of these, is everyone still happy with there's? Would you guys mind posting some pics of your rigs with the monitor?
Absolutely love it! It page maker UI is second to none. No touch screen nonsense. Super easy to audition several LUTs as well as save different settings for different gigs. Brightness is excellent as well as the power consumption. Using mine on a TV show. Paying it off on its first gig.

Isn't that fluid head just the best? I love mind. Hopefully someday they make one that can balance more weight...

I really enjoy using mine, I agree with a larger version would be sweet. I use mine a lot with Canon's 800mm and 200-400mm and it is amazing with large glass too.

Hi !

It s an incredibke monitor in shooting situations thanks to the smart settings but the image is not very accurate and it shows a lot of banding effet in low light.

Is that a 8 bit display caracteristic ?

Noisy screen

Noisy screen

I bought a 702 bright last day . but when connect that via hdmi with my canon 5d mark iii the small hd screen is noisy and grainy than my camera lcd. Although it is natural to see more noise in larger size Screen. but its noisy than even my desktop lcd. lut is disable on smallhd and calibration is default.

They just released an update with 2 calibration files. Going to test this weekend

Yes Its 8bit. but the quality of screen for me is not as good as camera lcd...Another problem i see only 59i and 24p on that..

Of course 702 desined for daylight or highkey shooting . in lowlight shooting the image quality is terrible.

I completely disagree....although it will be interesting to see what SmallHD does given Atomos' latest Flame release.

Been loving my 702 monitor that was purchased through the group buy and it's been preforming great. I had a straight line of dead pixels show up about a quarter of the way up from the bottom of the
monitor this past shoot. Anyone know any remedy for this issue? I'll try and take a photo of it to illustrate the problem.

Thanks

Hey guys,

got a questions for all Small HD 702 Bright owners here...

Had the 702 out yday (w/ Epic Dragon) and towards the end of the shoot the picture on the 702 was cut in half vertically. U could only see this if u did a pan, as the lower half basically froze for a sec or two while the top half showed the updated picture. The lower half took like 1-2 secs to keep up.

So a vertical-cut-in-half picture that on pan would update the lower half much slower... pretty much impossible to use.

702 was connected via SDI. No 3D LUT active. Did not have time to test whether the HDMI port would have provided a correct picture.

Anybody ever experience anything like that ?

Trying to gather info whether this is a possible 702 or Dragon issue...

Thanks.

Hmm...never had that happen. Maybe adjust your hertz output under the display settings to 30hz if it's at 60hz under the SDI Display output menu on the touch?

If that doesn't rectify things...fill out a support ticket to SmallHD.

Chris thanks,

I'll try to fiddle with that if that problem occurs again... it was working just fine until the end of the shoot...

could also be an issue with the cam...

I'll update if it happens again.

That sounds like a RED issue when the picture gets cut in half like that. What usually fixes it is cycling through the LCD modes. i.e. Magnify or switching from overlay to clean. Something that turns the LCD mode off for a second fixes the out put signal on the hdsdi and hdmi

Is the 702 still one of the best monitors out there?

We want to have it to review focus. My plan is to zoom 2X on the monitor and have second camera just looking at the screen and focusing (wildlife filming).

Cheers

Hi guys,

having an issue here with a 702 Bright monitor.

Unit turns on, then jumps to the date select screen. When I select the current date and hit the CONFIRM button, it does not leave this screen, ergo it never goes back to the cam picture.

Tried w/ and w/o SDI cable attached, powered by battery or AC unit. Same thing.

Any advice ? Has anybody encountered this ? Any way to force exit this screen ?

Any way to factory reset the unit ?

Thanks.
