Group Buy - SmallHD 702 Series Monitor

+1
had the 502 and sold it only because the 702 came out and figuring ill get the raven 4.7 touch, the second monitor on the camera should be at least bigger!

As others have mentioned, there is a p-tap to LP-E6 cable that SmallHD sells.

As a lot of my work involves Alexa and other cameras with lemo power, I also picked up one of these lemo cable to LP-E6 adapters from Letus: http://www.letus35.com/2-pin-to-lp-e6-adapter/

***Note: this particular cable is wired as American standard, which is the standard Letus has chosen for its Helix and power cages, which is the *opposite* as 2-pin power coming from Alexa (as is the case with Teradek, Paralinx, etc). The cable was a little short as well (it was different than pictured in the link), so I had a crossover 2-pin male to 2-pin female extension cable made from Alan at Media Blackout. So now I have the option of using the 502 (and 702) on the Helix with a short cable, or on an Alexa, etc with the crossover extension, which allows more variety in monitor placement. So far it works great, and I don't have to power up the monitor every time we switch out a dionic on the camera. Of course, with any solution like this, please be sure to check polarity/continuity with your cables before plugging it into the monitor!

Hi all,

I just picked up one of these SmallHD 702 monitors, so evidently I've missed out on this group buy. Bummer.

But I have a perplexing issue, and I'm hoping a bunch of people interested in the monitor might have some insight.

I'm trying to connect the 702 to a 13" Retina MacBook Pro via HDMI.

Connecting the two via HDMI causes no result. No picture on the SmallHD 702, no temporary screen-blanking on the Mac as is typical when they detect a new display. It's like I've plugged a bare cable into the Mac – nothing happens. The System Preferences>Displays pane shows no evidence of an attached monitor.

I've tested with three known good cables, via both the built-in HDMI and a Thunderbolt-HDMI adapter, same result: nothing.

I've plugged a Nikon DSLR and an Apple TV into the SmallHD 702 HDMI, and both produce a picture.

I've plugged the MacBook (direct and via adapter) into an LG HDTV, and it produces picture (extended desktop, etc.). System Prefs then shows the newly attached TV as expected.

It's only the combination of MacBook and SmallHD 702 that produces unexpected results (i.e. nothing!).

Anyone have any thoughts? Is there some HDMI-voodoo I'm missing?

(Other than that, first impressions are good. Screen is bright and sharp, UI is very well designed. Can't speak to the color yet, because I'm waiting for all my SDI-based kit to arrive, and the HDMI has the issue I'm describing.)

Many thanks, Ben

Make sure you select the HDMI input on the small HD.

Hey Chris, thanks for arranging this group buy! Would the monitors ship on November 13 or sooner, since we already have a significant number?

Hey Chris, thanks for arranging this group buy! Would the monitors ship on November 13 or sooner, since we already have a significant number?

Their new stock is supposed to come in on or before Oct 28...so if they are willing to release the code soon, then it should ship before the 13th (though I don't work for them so I don't know how they will do the allocation). I know SmallHD took great care of everyone in the 502 series group buy, shipping orders immediately. Since they have been flying through their stock of the 702, if we were all to place orders today, it would probably be a week or so before they would ship.

I'm working on getting the code though. Just been slammed here in my neck of the woods

Then, maybe ask them to throw in a pan-tilt mount (if it fits 702)?

That's a friction based mount and the 702 series is a much bigger/heavier monitor, so I highly doubt that mount will support the 702 with batteries. With a lot of friction based mounts/supports, it's all about weight control, but I'll ping them about it to see.
