  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - SmallHD 702 Series Monitor

anyone having issues with the screen protector seating properly? I ordered 2 and both of them don't click in nicely. Seems like they are a hair to long.

Mine was too long. Contacted SmallHD and they are shipping me a replacement.

My screen protected seems right. Not sure I am crazy about the how it changes the look of the monitor (makes it harder to see.) I will be taking it off on a regular bases but will keep it on when it is packed away. Still deciding if I want a sunshade. I'll be using it outside in real shooting before the group buy ends but thinking I will pick one of those up.

Added everyone else. Everyone should have the code now.

In terms of the sun-shade...I don't have one yet to test, but I'm probably going to do without since it's a daylight viewable monitor and a sunshade just adds bulk. I wasn't really a fan of the 502 series sunshade, broke easily and didn't like the way it attached.

For the screen protector, I don't think it's necessary either. SmallHD did some crazy tests kicking this monitor around and it held up perfectly fine.

Glad SmallHD is resolving any issue you guys are having with the screen protector.

agreed on the sunshade, the 502 one bothered me on how it attached, but it was very secure, the main issue i had with it was that i think they are too long. they can be half as long and still do the job they are meant to do.

I disagree in terms of you saying you could reduce its size. With the 502 shade, when putting my face all the way up to it, I have difficulties focusing on the screen...its just too close. Just my personal opinion though. I don't know how the 702 series hood attaches. Anyone who ordered and receives one, let us know!

hmmm, well i guess preferences are different for some people, it was my AC's number one problem with it, he had to take it off to be able to get close enough to see focus. the tv logic one was a few inches shorter and always seemed to be fine. its mainly my ACs monitor, but i also noticed that it just stuck out too far and just bothered me being on the camera. the 702 one looks really huge, so much so it has some sort of support bracket. im hoping the 702 doesnt need one, hence a smaller footprint then a 502 with the shade.
i do belive in the protector though, since a lot of the time we are out in locations with a lot of dust and dirt kicking up, plus just a lot of grabbing and touching the screen by directors.

I'm finding the monitor and what I see on my camera screen (1DC) is very different in terms of color. I'll have to shoot some tests to see if my on camera monitor is close or if the small hd is closer. I bought this as a directors / client monitor and I'd like to provide the best image to my client rather than having to explain each time why the color isn't the same. If theres some type of other calibration I could do, would love to get some direction.

Overall, digging the monitor though.  Would like to get it closer in color. Cheers!
