Hi All,

I'm looking into a group buy and I wanted to get the community's opinions on a few questions I have.

What's the sweet spot for discounting?
What are some of the most successful group buys on RedUser?
What are the major pitfalls? I know that people bailing is the number one issue - what's the best way around this?

Any advice would be gold!

- 25-35%. 20-50 participants.
- Phil's filter buy and Chris' buys with SmallHD have been pretty successful. A lot of GBs go off without a hitch on here.
- Slow delivery of product after payment has been made. People asking for extra discounts/goodies on top of the generosity of the merchant. People bailing out.

Those are my thoughts off the top of my head.

yeah, 20-30% seems like the norm

I'd say quality of product is usually the downfall... if I bought something you recommended and it sucked, I'm gonna be pissed.

Thanks guys, this is great info.

Any advice and especially procedure for conducting a GB would also be really helpful. For instance I've sometimes seen the exact prices remain private and sometimes public - what's best in which situation?

Exact pricing is necessary for transparency until GB concludes, then it should be deleted and not spoken about as a courtesy to the company involved.

It's best to keep things private in regarding when codes are PM'd/released, that way it keeps it to only RU's (or at least they have an account here). This helps the creator/seller of the product to keep their distributors happy saying it's only on RU.

Always be up front with the company...they would want to typically see a track record for group buys. GB's are popular here, provided they are ran smoothly, and all key communication is laid out on the table for us RU's so we know exactly what we're getting/getting into with the savings. Sometimes it takes me 6+months of going back and forth with a company before I agree to do a group buy...plus, I have to like the product. So test the product yourself before you put your name on it.

Chris has done tons of GBs on here and they go smoothly. They will always have their hurdles and just be sure you want to be the conduit between the RUs and the company.

Also keep in mind that group buys can be a pain in the ass for whoever is doing fulfillment. I can only imagine Hotrod regrets the firecrest group buy; 6 months later and I still don't have all my filters and they had to deal with ordering and shipping over a thousand filters, bad filters, grumpy customers, etc. And none of that was on them, all on Formatt Hitech but they have to deal with the customer service for it. Not to discourage you as I love the group buys on here and participate in a lot of them, just make sure you understand how much work it could be!
