  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: RTMotion Wireless Multi-Channel Follow Focus - Limited Time!

Thanks Justin, I don't know anyone else who has experience with some 3rd party batteries for Canon. I'll check those out. Odd they only sell European plugins though.

From the picture, it has a standard US plug built into the charger...it also has a euro plug adapter included in the kit...win win!

Just received ours. Testing starts tomorrow. A few notes:

I did not order all the accessories but the pelican case it comes with has space for everything as you buy it. This made me happy.
There is a micro-usb port on the right hand side of the controller just below the ff wheel. You can power the unit from this. (for us this will be a nice backup option if batteries die!)

Build quality feels awesome. For those wondering it was paid in full as of May. For those waiting, remind yourself that the day it arrives you won't remember all the time you spent waiting for it anymore. A great price for a great product. Thanks Kerri and Kris and everyone in the group buy!

Edit - Plus it comes with a micro-usb cable!

Unfortunately real world testing won't happen for two weeks yet. It arrived days after a shoot. So far I can say that setup is wicked, wicked easy and simple. The controller has connected perfectly every time we started it up. As we have yet to order the batteries it was awesome to see that it could be powered with a usb cable.

The controller does not give a distance reading currently but I understand that is coming. Right now it gives a reading from 0-999. That is set automatically on startup. Not sure how that is going to play out when shooting but it seems like it will be helpful.

Overall, super stoked to start shooting with this thing!

Ok, thanks James, I look forward to hearing your results. Anyone else, testing the RTmotion?

We would like to purchase a unit and had a few questions if anyone can chime in...

  1. Can two Hand Controllers be used on one receiver for controlling different motors on the same receiver?
  2. How long is a realistic time frame for unit delivery if ordered in the next 2-3 weeks? (website says post october)
  3. I assume 2nd or 3rd motors can be added easily?
  4. Can a used 3.0 single motor unit be upgraded to new MK V? Any idea of cost?
Thanks all,
PCG

so one thing I have noticed since i have been using the unit full time for 3.5 weeks now is that minimum range can be an issue sometimes. having my AC stand right next to me make it more difficult then if she stands 10+ feet from me, we recently moved to the hard wired cable when not running steadi work and it performs fine but going wireless if you are to close seems to get a bit glitchy. maybe something for a firmware upgrade? otherwise truly a great unit, on week 2 with the same battery in controller.... insane quick set up time and great responsiveness as long as you are far enough away

Is the rtmotion followfocus the best out there on a budget? Just started to look around and thought it would be tons of info in this thread.
Elementtechnica has one option also but im not sure which parts you get included...i see no motors. Looking forward to hear your tests as you recievrs the units.
