Group Buy: Optitron2 - Wireless remote for Canon/Nikon glass

Jacek emailed me:

Recording on/off is F1+ Wireless
1:1 on/off is F1+Range

Quick response as always - thanks Jacek!

Hello everyone,
I would like to give you heads up on price increase
all items across the board will get a 10-20% bump in late February.
Plan accordingly if you are on the fence.
I just thought you would like to have time to think it over.
for Canon/ Nikon lenses there is no better solution!!!!

Bought a Sigma 18-35 to use on a Ronin with my Optitron2... Unfortunily if you try and use the Iris control it all go to crap and you lose control. Only resetting 'everyting' brings back focus control.

I had read this
Sigma art 18-35 f1.8 - Focus is smooth, but lens loses calibration when opened up all the way. Some items work well.
but assumed it was somthing we could work around by not opening up to 1.8... but that seems not to be the case...

1) Anyone else having better luck??

2) is there way to disable Iris control from the Optitron2? this would stop it being touched and I just accept I control from camera

3) is it likely to get fixed?

thank you for any relevant advice!

Michael L

You can disable iris from OptiTron2 by sliding it all the way closed and leaving there. It is the iris disable mode on the OptiTron2.
I suppose you can send Red an email about the iris control issues with the 18-35- they will looks into it and hopefully rectify in the next S/W revision but they need the feedback to do that....
Also there is a "lens initialize" function by holding down the F1 button and pressing the "ESC" button.
Maybe the OT2 users can chime in here- I've never seen any issues when we had the 18-35 tested here and only heard of 2 cases...

Our Sigma 18-35 works perfectly with no issues at all on the Optitron.

I tried on a different mount and a different camera with no luck.. (Starting to go back to hateing all this make shift stuff) ... will try with another 18-35 and see where that gets me...

any tips?... could you give me the SN of your lens (in a PM if you prefer) to see if it is mabye really diffent?

sorry and thanks for the help

Michael

OK... (maybe I'll start a fresh thread if this is the wrong place?)

I have tried another Sigma 18-35 and it produces the same fault! Conclusion is that it is very unlikely it is the lens!

I have tried my 3rd Red camera body and it produces the same fault! Conclusion is that it is very unlikely it is the camera!

Now I am not Sherlock but there is 2 things left I can blame (since others are doing well with this lens) the Optitron2 or the version of software?

Stephen (Pruitt) please can you also tell me the Red firmware version you are running and also how long ago you bought your Optitron (or if it is 2nd hand do you know how old it is?)

thanks

Michael L

Another possibility is the camera firmware. Are both cameras the same?
If all else fails we could take look at your lens here. We have Epic D and OptiTrons obviously...

re the sigma 18-35 issue...

Is anyone in the UK interested in seeing this resolved?? .. I have tried 4 bodies 3 eos mounts and 2 samples of the same lens... Anyone with a lens that works or anyone with a lens they would like to see work?

PPS With foolcontrol and our Weapon I can control the sigma 18-35 fine. Not sure what to do next... ?... When I say fine I mean it doesn't have same problem... Still not what anyone who has been near a proper LCS would call professional.

PPS next step will be selling the optitron!

Ok we got to the bottom of the issue... you need to upgrade the Sigma lens to the latest firmware (easy to do... you just need a £35 sigma lens dock).

the outcome is that you can control the lens pefectly with focus and aperture BUT if you jam the aperture past the f1.8 it all jams up... this is still a bit tricky but it seems it is in Reds hands not an Optitron issue. We only really bought this unit to work with this particular lens on a Ronin so are probably going to sell... You could use a bit of tape over the bottom end of the iris slider or just control the lens from the screen.

Hope this help somebody!

thanks Michael
