  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Optitron2 - Wireless remote for Canon/Nikon glass

I didn't realize you were working on hardware at all. I was only aware of the software you have shown.

The plot thickens. What else is up your sleeve?

We don't plan to release the switch as a standalone thing... as of now... We just see that we don't mind others having access to RCP. From what Jacek wrote, it sounds like a wifi, not bluetooth connection, and if that is the case, he probably could speak through our box or the hotlink. I'll check that tomorrow (if it's wifi or bluetooth). It's not documented but I guess I can find the network. THC wouldn't be able to do that, as it is RF.

Anyway, will try to start uploading videos with examples from different lenses tomorrow.
I at least think they are very convincing.

Check my signature maybe...

(and then I should make the disclaimer that on reduser I talk for myself and not one or any of the companies I might represnt etc... Unless I state that that is exactly what I do...)

I am interested but only at tier 3 or 4. Also, is the Sigma 18-35 going to get better or is it as good as it will get? That lens seems to be a workhorse around here. I don't want to have any known glitches.

What I see is that the 18-35 can work and can have glitches. But you can test your items.
If you set them wide open and still have contact, then you're good.

I also happen to know that sigma is on the ball, but I have throughout this optitron saga, tried to be open on what works and what doesn't, and this is my most current experience.

I'll try to get an update from Sigma.

I also suspect RED has to do a bit of work on their side to broaden the Sigma experience.

Actually, I think (looking at the raven and that RED is now giving out the RCP protocol) that the Optitron experience is deemed to get even better over the next few months.

Gunleik, this being important to me, Sigma is a workhorse on my Ronin.
Let us know news as soon as possible :)

Will do.

What I have with my item is that it works really well... unless I open it fully. Then it loses contact.
I have tried other items of the same lens that behaves "as you'd expect". I suspect it is partly a firmware issue on the lens (Ihave the latest). But I'll check further with Sigma.

24, 35 and 50 arts work gloriously. Last time I checked, the 24-35 did not work at all.

Yeah... I am actually pretty interested in this...

A conditional list:

How many would be interested if we reach tier 3 or 4.

I really can see that that has merit as that is where the deal becomes supergood.

I'm in at tier 3 or 4. Maybe for 2 at those tiers.

Yes. Besides me showing off racks and more documentation, I think this could be a benefiting way. Getting enough guys signing up if we reach tier two.

Hey.
I want this thing, too. :)

Just a quick note on the Sigma 18-35. Whereas Gunliek had trouble with his example, mine works PERFECTLY with the system. Indeed, were I to pick one "exemplary lens" to demonstrate the capabilities of the Optitron 2 system, it would be the Sigma 18-35. It's a flawless performer in this house.

Are you guys both on Canon mount?

Yes, we are. I think something's awry with Gunliek's lens.

I am not involved in taking the orders here folks, so if nobody reports back how many units they ordered we will have to rely on Jacek's reporting exclusively.

I'm betting nobody wants to wait until closing day to find out where we stand, so fire them off either to me privately via PM, or right here. :-)

Do the lenses have the same firmware installed? I remember there have been updates for this lens and if i'm right SIGMA mentioned better AF-performance or something like that.

Maik. . .

I have no idea what firmware my lens has. Indeed, until Gunliek suggested it actually HAD firmware, I didn't know it! All I know is that my Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 works, and works perfectly. It is just about my favorite lens in the kit! Love what the Optitron 2 does with our Scarlet.

We are at seven if all follow through with orders, eight if Suresh joins in.
