Optitron2

The OptiTron2 is a professional device that connects with auto focus motors built into DSLR lenses and, instead of a gear /Follow Focus(external motor) combination seamlessly integrates with the lens and the camera system for accurate, repeatable, smooth and responsive lens control of focus and aperture.

Seriously intrigued by the promises of the Optitron 2.Looks like the answer to a lot of questions when working with stills optics.

If I hadn't already bought mine, I'd be all over this! It's a terrific piece of kit!

Hi
im trying to meet Gunleik today and have a look at the Optitron. Guess I will order after that.
Thanks for doing this group buy Scott

What about the wifi unit? Is that part of the group buy? And do you think that's worth getting as part of the kit?

We ONLY use the wireless unit with our Optitron. We never use it tethered. And it works perfectly.

Stephen

I think the choice of a fixed EF mount on the Raven, points in the direction of a lot more development on the active mount side and RCP (which is the protocol controlling the lenses, what Mikael uses for Foolcontrol and what Cliff uses to make Movie-slate possible in its newest incarnation.

Real good news for anyone investing development and equipment in that direction.

Yup! So if we want to wirelessly control your RAVEN with an Optitron2... what do we buy? The RAVEN has built in Wi-Fi, right?

The Optitron manual is a little confusing.

It has come to my attention that the value of the deal may not be completely obvious to everyone. To be clear the tiered discount will be subtracted from the retail prices listed in the original posting. I have added color here for emphasis.

OptiTron2 kit for Red Cameras (also works with our adapters for Sony and ARRI cameras) Retail $1995
OT2 Wireless receiver kit for Red cameras (same compatibility as above) retail $795
Extra cables (edit: prices vary)
D-tap $80 retail
Hirose to Lemo (Red data cable) $125 retail
Extra battery $50 retail

Therefore (if my math is correct) at the top tier discount of 30% the cost of The OptiTron2 kit for Red Cameras would be $1396.50

optitron uses bluetooth to the ctrl port. i have asked if it will be able to integrate with other de ices like the omod (which has bluetooth). i see that the ctrl port can get pretty crowded. amongst others, we use it.... :)

We found that wifi is not a good idea for lens control. Too many interruptions. To answer your question you'd still need the wireless receiver kit for wireless operation.
The great news is that now with built in wifi all the other camera controls are on a wifi stream with your phone and app so no more conflicts...

I think there is an issue with gadgets that want access to the CTRL port, and I see that t some stage a bluetooth/wifi device that routes signal into the CTRL or Network port depending on application is neccesary to hook up with "all" external units, to avoid conflict of interest.

As a little by-the-by, we have that functionality built into our on-camera unit, but it won't work for most users as it is part of a rather costly system and not a standalone device.
The OMOD seems like a more plausible candidate.

I asked for start/stop so im very glad to se its coming and even magnification! But the timing is not the best for me just now. But with those features I think its a much more attractive product. Well played!

If that's correct I wound be in for sure!

I think the math adds up.

Scott. May I request that you put in clear end prices for wired and wireless options at all tires?
I too get a bit confused by the current setup.

Now even the deposit is a bit unclear.
It should be specified in USD
