  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - NISI Cinema Filters

I'll do a set of the 4x4 if it gets to 30% off

Rocky, can you comment on Mr. Rossi's caution regarding chance of increased flare and reflections with the Miracle filters? I've been waiting for months to buy the Miracle rectangular ND filters, but I don't want images with unintended flare and reflections. Presumably there have been tests on preproduction samples of the Miracle filters. I don't usually shot with very bright lights in frame or close to the frame and in that case, would you say the image quality will likely be very high with respect to control of unwanted flares and reflections? Decision day Friday!
Hey Rick,

Ketch's comment is very correct, it's no doubt that you can get a better image with the single glass filter(Nano series). The more glasses you stack, the worse image you would get, as there are some Internal reflection between the glasses.

But i think you may misunderstand what Ketch said: yes the Nano series doing a better job on handling Flair/Reflection, but doesn't mean that when you using the Miracle series you will get unintended flare and reflections. There are two principle of light reduction for the ND filters: absorb and reflect. the flare and reflections problem would most likely appear on the latter one(reflect). This kind of filters looks like a mirror, very high reflection.

NiSi IRND filters absorb the light with coating, so it wouldn't lead to the serious flare and reflections problem. Compare to the image of without using filter, yes it does have some affect, but it is very normal, just like other brand's filter do.

For the Nano series, there are Anti-reflection coatings on the both side of surface, that's why it can handle Flair/Reflection better.

All in all, just like Ketch said, if you are personal user, and you
pursuit of the perfect image, i suggest you go for the Nano series.

Thanks for your asking

Q:Why we produce the Miracle serier IRND?
A:The rules of renting filters are difference between Chinese rental house and the US's rental house: In China, when you rent some equipments for rental house, you can get some filters for free, and some users are don't care these filters, some times they will not use the matt box and paste the filters onto the lens DIRECTLY without any protection!! I believe you will never do that right?

In order to saving cost, most rental house would like to buy very durable filters, so Miracle series is their best choice.

Rick,

The beauty of the Nano series of NiSi filters in this GB, which are the ones I have been using for just over a year now, differ for the Miracle, and other manufacturer's filters, as they are built from a single piece of glass, and their coating is on the outside, while all other filters, as well as the Miracle series, are built for "TWO" pieces of glass and the costing in the middle.

By design the Nano filters are more Flair/reflection resistant, and better suited for Stacking then any other filters, Miracle series included.

By this I surely don't mean that they can't be stacked, as for as far as Filters have been created and used they have been stacked, but the Nano series are better on handling Flair/Reflection.

There are also other options to avoid EXTREME flair/reflection when using filters, and this are offered by the tilting of the Matte Box's Filter Tray Holder it self as we see on the Bright Tangerine Atom series.

So, to recap, the "Miracle" filters, (which btw, are not the ones been sold in this GB) are built with the same "2" pieces of glass method of all other manufacturers, just a lot better and with magic sauce, and handle Flair'Reflection as most of al other filters out there, but still need to keep in consideration the special Coating while the Nano" series in this GB, are built with "1" single piece of glass, and handle Flair/Reflection better... :)

Hey Ketch, thanks so much for your detailed explanation!! That's a very helpful comment!

Thanks, Rocky and Ketch! Hopefully I'll be back on here Friday. I had intended to buy the Miracle, and I take good care of my glass. I recall someone anecdotally mentioning they take care of their filters but were surprised to find one scratched, so I thought the Miracle will be safer. Before this group buy offer, I also have been researching other options such as going with ND 0.3, 0.9, 1.5, 2.1 to economize but this group buy for a full set with a bonus makes sense.

Addressing Paul's question, my largest lens has a 90mm front element (Fujinon HA20x7.8B M10 cinema zoom) and I plan on buying 4x4" filters to go with my Schneider True Cut 715 that is 4x4" and 4mm thick. That lens element is flush with the end of the lens housing so I think I'll be good to go with the smaller rectangular filters in front of the URSA Mini 4.6K PL. yes, please advise if I'm wrong about the 4x4" as I would go with 4x5.65" if necessary.

Thanks for your assistance in the past. I've several times referred others to the NiSi Nano filters mentioning that Ketch loves them. And the Misfit Atom is on my Wishlist with the tilting front to make it easier to get a clean image.

Edit: I just noticed if there are 60 orders, the discount rises to 50%. Oh my, how far are we from 50% off?

Hi Rick,

Yes, most coating filter need to be use very carefully, NiSi Nano series adopt the unique scratch resistance technology, as you can see in the video, it is not easy to get scratches.

Thanks so much for referred your friends to NiSi.

For the GB, sadly now we have 24 orders, so i seems impossible to get to 60 orders...

Gary, it may help to peruse some of the relevant posts on BMCuser as well. Several months ago I recall discussions about the efficacy of the 4x4" rectangular filters. If I recall correctly, the 18mm is safe with 4x4", but you may not even be able to find a matte box that will be advertized as being adequate down to 11mm. For example, all the Bright Tangerine are built to handle 14mm without reservation. If you can get the 11mm in very close, they are unofficially supposed to handle 11mm assuming a Super 35 sensor but I don't remember if that required 4x5.65". It's a budget concern of course, but when I was posting there that I thought it best to play it safe with 4x5.65" filters, a few people posted that they were doing fine with 4x4" filters. Some quick research today should get you a definitive answer for coverage on the Super 35 sensor.
