  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - NISI Cinema Filters

im guessing if im only looking into grads and at this rate and shipping im better off buying for regular price locally..

Well this GB is for an entire set of their ND's, so if you're not in the market for some, and adding the Grads A La Carte, then yea, you'd be better off just purchasing the grads from a local distributor.

Is this for the NiSi MIRACLE IRND filters or the previous version? Also, what is the difference?

Thanks!

Hi Paul, thanks for your message, this GB is for the previous version, the Miracle IRND is still in production and not launch yet, i suppose it will be launch on the BIRTV at the end of this month.

For the difference, i would like to say the previous version is most suitable for personal users and the Miracle IRND is most suitable for rental houses. The reason is the construction of them are different. The coating of pervious version are on the surface(single glass), and the coating of Miracle IRND are in the middle of two pieces of glasses.

In this case, the previous version can get a better image but Miracle series is more durable.

You can count me in for a set of 6x6 ND filters!

Thanks for this group buy! The best ND filters in the universe at a discounted price! What a great day this is!

Hi Chris, include me for a set of 4x5.6 ND filters. Thanks,

So I guess my next question is...

In comparison to the "Miracle" branded filters, how durable are they, are they hard to clean, and do they have any "scratch resistant" properties at all?

Actually, that's 3 questions...

Look at the very first post...has me demoing the first durability. They are scratch resistant, essentially waterproof (water just beads), and are a breeze to clean. Incredibly durable!!

Oh cool! I thought that was the new "MIRACLE" branded filters. That's pretty awesome! Thanks for clarifying that.

Let me explain:
The filter in the video is the "Nano" series, not the "Miracle".
For the miracle IRND, the durable is better than the Nano series because the coating is in the middle, and there is no coating on the surface, so compare with the Nano one, it is "hard" to clean, just like other sandwich filter.
Yes it is scratch resistance, as the glass is much harder than other glass.

Just to give a bit of clarification to those that are either new or not as experienced in the Cinema Filter world...

Cinema filters, go inside a Tray which in turn goes inside a Matte Box, they are very hard to put scratches on, and or get damaged on the surface with regular to heavy use, and I should know, as I have been suing them for the better part of the last 10 years on places that most would never dare to venture.

Based on this, while I welcome and surely love the upcoming "Miracle" series, I also absolutely love the Nano serious i this GB as they set themselves apart form the rest, and with the fact that they are built for a single piece of glass and not with two with a coating in the middle, this filter still offer great durability, the new "Miracle" series will offer more, but this are much better at reflecting light and resisting flares, and offer far better usability when stacked together vs the "Miracle" series which like all other filters been the hey already are made of two pieces of glass with the coating in the middle, are more prone to reflective strikes of light when stacked.

So unless you are a rental company, or you are so bad with your gear and carry your filters inside an open case without any protection, you will be more then fine with this GB offering of the Nano series filters, and will love their usability and performance vs any other... As I do... :)

Rocky, can you comment on Mr. Rossi's caution regarding chance of increased flare and reflections with the Miracle filters? I've been waiting for months to buy the Miracle rectangular ND filters, but I don't want images with unintended flare and reflections. Presumably there have been tests on preproduction samples of the Miracle filters. I don't usually shot with very bright lights in frame or close to the frame and in that case, would you say the image quality will likely be very high with respect to control of unwanted flares and reflections? Decision day Friday!

Rick,

The beauty of the Nano series of NiSi filters in this GB, which are the ones I have been using for just over a year now, differ for the Miracle, and other manufacturer's filters, as they are built from a single piece of glass, and their coating is on the outside, while all other filters, as well as the Miracle series, are built for "TWO" pieces of glass and the costing in the middle.

By design the Nano filters are more Flair/reflection resistant, and better suited for Stacking then any other filters, Miracle series included.

By this I surely don't mean that they can't be stacked, as for as far as Filters have been created and used they have been stacked, but the Nano series are better on handling Flair/Reflection.

There are also other options to avoid EXTREME flair/reflection when using filters, and this are offered by the tilting of the Matte Box's Filter Tray Holder it self as we see on the Bright Tangerine Atom series.

So, to recap, the "Miracle" filters, (which btw, are not the ones been sold in this GB) are built with the same "2" pieces of glass method of all other manufacturers, just a lot better and with magic sauce, and handle Flair'Reflection as most of al other filters out there, but still need to keep in consideration the special Coating while the Nano" series in this GB, are built with "1" single piece of glass, and handle Flair/Reflection better... :)
