  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY: NEAT VIDEO-NOISE AND GRAIN VIDEO FILTER

Wait, wait, wait. That's not correct, Nick.

I specifically got an email from the Neat Video folks telling me that, if more sales were achieved and a larger group buy percentage granted later on, that I would receive a refund from Neat Video after the end of the group buy.

Frankly, I don't care, as it is only going to be another ten or fifteen bucks, but I do want to make it clear for what we signed up for.

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Let me check with NEAT VIDEO to be sure, but that would actually make sense and be fair, as you were in those approximately 10 emails that went out early, as a one time batch. Those that received the initial emails, as I mentioned, received subsequent emails clarifying their status, all of which came from NEAT VIDEO. That allows for a refund, to those purchasers, depending on discount tier achieved.

The paragraph above does NOT APPLY to those, who elect to purchase subsequent to that batch email, as those subsequent purchases' discounts are determined, by the discount tier in effect, at that time and is FIXED.

I have obtained further clarification, from NEAT VIDEO.

For GB participants, who have not already purchased their license(s), please not the following, from NEAT VIDEO:
Each participant can either purchase

now at the current discount (20%) and that deal would be final in each such case
or they can wait for the whole group to reach the necessary
level (100) and then to purchase at the 25% discount
and that deal would be final for all members of that group.
There is going to be no re-adjustments of the price already paid
in any case.

The followup emails that NEAT VIDEO sent to the ten participants was the following, per NEAT VIDEO:

In addition to the previous e-mail please kindly note that the
offer you have received today (10% discount) is based on the
current number of participants in this Group Buy action. If the
number grows, then the discount will be increased and we will
then then send you an updated link to order the product with
a higher discount.

Please follow the posts in the Group Buy thread for further updates.

This should eliminate any issues and allow a straightforward and successful conclusion, to the Group Buy.

I use Neat Video on a daily basis, in fact I'm getting the license in order to have my other editing suite working with it simultaneously

I haven't made any purchase, I've also never done a group buy, so maybe I'm doing it wrong? I thought once we sign on to this group, we get a link from neat video to do the purchase. I haven't gotten anything from them

I just went ahead and bought it when I got the initial email.

Like I said, it's only a couple of bucks difference, so I don't care. I'm just hoping someone can show me how to use the darn thing.

:-)

Are there any tutorials???

Hi Stephen,

Pleas see the 1st post , in this thread. Each Group Buy is a bit different. In this case, the Vendor chose to send individual participants and emil, with the particulars of that participant's Interest.

Note that the emails, for nearly ALL the participants are to be sent out, AFTER the Group Buy closes, on 20, September, 2014.

Thank you very much

Fury

Here's what I usually do (from memory, so it won't be 100% accurate) when I want to remove lots of noise and are OK with a long render:

1. Add Neat Video filter to clip.

2. Find a frame where there is large area of constant-ish color containing the noise you want to remove.

3. Go into options for Neat Video filter, draw a box over the large area of constant color and get it to analyze / use that.

4. Go into the advanced set up and turn everything down a bit (it's usually too high), plus turn on the very low frequency NR setting.

5. Hit OK or whatever to close the Neat Video window.

6. In main Neat Video filter setting, turn on Temporal Noise Reduction (3 frames is good).

7. MARVEL AT GLORIOUS NOISE REDUCTION!

You can also do profiles etc, but this should be good to get you started :)

Thanks Bruce, I'll give it a shot.

My stuff will never look like it was done by pros such as yourself, but it looks pretty good to me, and that just has to be "good enough." (Which is why I'm probably not going to upgrade to the Dragon. The footie I'm looking at from our trusty ol' RED One MX looks really, really good to me. If the Dragon didn't exist, I would never even think of complaining!)

Put me down for one OFX license for Mac please! Thanks Nick!

Au contraire, I think it could well look better due to the old time-quality-money triangle... throw some time into it (even if it's just "hey let's set this to render overnight") and you can beat the "pro's" I think.

BTW I did have a chat with Ian Vertovec (fantastic, humble and talented colorist for Social Network, Dragon Tattoo, etc) back when I was helping Tom Lowe on Timescapes... and Ian loved Neat Video too! But he had only recently tried it out.

I guarantee that half of the "pros" in the industry haven't even discovered this gem yet.

Anyway... let us know how you do!

1 OFX Pro for Mac please (email PM'd)

Every pro finishing artist and colourist i know (and i know a lot of them) have a very good handle on what the strengths and weaknesses of NeatVideo are

If you want the very best then you turn to DVO tools, but they are vastly more expensive and only run in a few expensive host apps like Mystika and FilmMaster

That said, NeatVideo is pretty good and at a very good price, plus a ton of dead cheap or even free hosts to use it inside

The best? IMHO not even close… the best bang for the buck? absolutely

Just don't go away thinking because i don't find a need for NeatVideo, that i have not demo'd and tested it and found it to be lacking when compared to the tools i have at hand already, but being a pro means i likely have tools at hand that others do not...
