  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Litepanels Gemini

Hey everyone, we have a week left on this deal, so please feel free to share on your social or with friends who might be interested. During the last group buy I put together, I had SO many comments and messages from people who didn't see the buy until it was too late to participate. I'm hoping to avoid that this go-round by getting the word out to as many folks who might be interested before it ends.

Thanks,

The BBS Area 48 light was the first (I think...?) to put bare LED bulbs in a light and move the phosphor coating to the panel on the front.....

Filling in a bit of history about RPT:

The first move of the phosphor from the LED surface to a remote panel is a bit of a toss-up. Both Cree and Intematrix hold patents with some of those held by Intematrix built on top of some of Cree's. While Cree focussed on other industries, Intematrix developed Chromalit fixtures. These were marketed towards lighting manufacturers, designers, architectural, etc..

In 2011 - at the Cinegear NY show, PRG (Production Resource Group) introduced the FOTON as part of a new line they were launching called TruColor.
They credited Intematrix as a collaborator in the technology.
I believe this was the first remote phosphor fixture designed specifically for the film production industry.
The unit rated at 95 CRI, was weather resistant, had 3 reflectors and would accept Dedolight front AKS. It was really nice and small - both AC & DC variants.
Might still have one of the brochures around.

The following NAB (2012), PRG launched the TruColor HS.
This is closer to the 2X1 design we see today in the Gemini. Unlike the FOTON, it introduced the ability to swap out the phosphor panels to produce different color temperatures.

Less than a year later, in January 2013, Cineo acquired the TruColor line from PRG.
They dropped the FOTON but rebranded the HS under their name, followed by the LS and now many more.

BB&S lists themselves as one of the RPT pioneers. They introduced the Area 48 fixture in 2014.
I am not aware if there was a precursor to that model - but the Area 48 did boast some nice features and endorsements from REDUsers.

Thanks,

Just don’t tell anyone outside the US as they will be very sad.

Well if you have access to an address in the US, you can still buy as long as you ship to that address. They'll hold for you or work out shipping separately w/them... :)

I know it's not ideal. Sorry Bob!

will there be a wait period for fulfillment after this GB is over? thank you

First, thanks so much for doing this. Second, I could use some help understanding how you guys are using these lights so I can determine how many I may need or want. When and how would you use one Gemini? Two Gemini? Three Gemini? etc...What other lights do have or want in your kit. My experience so far is using Photoflex 1000w tungsten softboxes and a lowel light kit for corporate interviews. I have no experience with led or 5600k lights or lights that are dimmable. Are these lights as good as tungsten lights on skin? I am wanting to branch out and do some commercials and more filmic projects. I was thinking about picking up the Sony Cine Alta PL lenses set but now I am wondering if the lights may be more important? Sorry for the questions, I have not done video work in awhile, too busy working and building houses, but I would like to get back in again. Thanks

Well these lights are great for adding lighting gags. For example, Having 1x Gemini unit do the work of a couple of 300’s, a magic gaget and a bunch of gels saves a lot of time. Or setting up police lights gag is just as simple and if you buy more Gemini’s you could add more depth to the lighting police light gag. It’s other best use is having just about every color you could need in the unit. No more adding gels to the light to correct/stylize. As for using as Geminis a tungsten source? They are awesome you won’t be disappointed using them. I would add the soft box to the order. These lights are like sky panels. And since the sky panels came out, it proved become the most used light on film sets. I have yet been on a job where we didn’t have a skypanel on the order. It became a standard to any G&E order. So you can’t really go wrong with ordering at least 1. Your gonna find out its your favorite unit.
