  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GROUP BUY - Litepanels Gemini

I’m in for one panel, Bluetooth dongle, Snapbag, 40 Degree Eggcrate.

Travis, Please add me for:

1 Gemini
1 Gemini Barn Doors
1 Gemini Snapbag Softbox

Thank you!

What’s the options to run off batteries? Do they make a plate like the skypanels?

I’ll take 2 cases to my order

Sure Charles, there are two snapgrids. Both 40 degrees. One built to attach to the snapbag and one built to attach directly to the fixture itself. As you can use the snapbag snapgrid w/out diffusion simply by attaching the snapbag w/out diffusion and then adding the grid to that, I feel it's the most versatile and that's what I have in my kit.

Here's a link that will show the honeycomb, and both snapgids. Hope this helps!

That does help, thank you! Didn't realize they had both a snapgrid and a honeycomb available to mount directly on the fixture...actually a somewhat odd choice when they could have done a series of honeycombs like they make for the 1x1's. Interesting.

I'd actually think that using the bag mounted snapgrid without diffusion would deliver an even tighter pattern than nominal because the diffusion is further back from the grid? Would be interesting to test.

Also, the snap bag also intensifies the light because off the reflective surface.

I get that the Gemini is newer tech all around with high CRI, infinite color and hugely significant bells and whistles, but it looks like the specs for daylight output from the Astra 6X are considerably higher? For simple lightweight doc setups I may be better served there... just considering out loud. Anything else I'm missing?

Astra 6X: 588 fc / 6330 lux @ 5.0' at 5600K 17.7 x 16.3 x 5.3" 7 lbs

Gemini: 389 fc / 4317 lux @ 5.0' Daylight 25.0 x 6.5 x 12.5" 22.2 lbs

Very different lights. Astra is almost a point source in comparison. But for single color and portability it’s hard to ignore.

I agree with Bob. I never liked the little points of light that make up those 1x1s myself. They do have their place though! The BBS Area 48 light was the first (I think...?) to put bare LED bulbs in a light and move the phosphor coating to the panel on the front. Really spreads out the light in a much more pleasing way I think. I have a demo Gemini right now, and it seems to do the same thing in that regard. However, it is a much, much more versatile light. Fantastic tool. Wish it was a bit brighter but I like it enough to be buying 3, (maybe 4).....

Yes, the Astras are approx 110w and the Gemini is 325w. So anytime you have a light that's 3X as powerful and you're looking at specs like this there's more to the story. Beam angle, diffusion, etc...all play into this. I have both and the Gemini is about 3-4X as bright as a single Astra with much more coverage.

There's a great comment by Eric Coughlin a few pages back that goes into a lot more detail about this exact comparison if you search the thread! Let me know if you have any other questions I can help ya with!

I love the Gemini but I've been saying for months that if they had some type of intensifier like the Skypanel, I'd snatch it up immediately.

Let’s hope they make one!
