  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

Pierre, is it coming any more videos? I wonder what parts you take of when fitting it into a case. Should you release the springs when storeage it? The best way to get in and out in it. How to customize it to your size and size of the rig.

Yesterday I finally got time to try out the exoskeleton with the epic. I had it on a for 30 minutes and it have great potentials.

One thing i noticed is that i bounce in with my arms to the exoskeleton arms wich creates bounces. I can of course try to keep the arms in but perhaps i can adjust the exo arms instead. It is super easy to pass throw doorways without leaning your arms like we seen in earlier videos.

Cant wait to put it in common use. I think i had the waist section little to high since i got tired in the lower back. I should probely lower the waist of the exoskelett to have the weight transfeering better down to the hips better. More testing will follow!

Also i will make a custome softer belt to make it easier to get in and out of it.

I agree with everything but the doorways. In NYC I'm not getting through your average townhouse bedroom door. If I use the twist method, I can make it through but with difficult and not turning the corner on a landing. Either way, I figure for those type of shots, I'll just man up and do it the non-eco way. I figure for 90 percent or more of the shots I do with a gimbal, the exo covers me. I actually look forward to gimbal work now. My last job with it, I was doing five minute takes, and not taking it off for 2o minutes or more.

In Sweden most doors are 90cm wide since its a standard Here. I have only passed throw two different doorways, and i did that straight. I can se a problem going in to a small room with furnitures covering the passage so you have to go in with an angle.

Got a bill from Fed Ex today for $141. Said customs and taxes. Wasn't aware that it was going be more then I had already paid? Anyone else get hit with this?

Also the foam in my cases lid is falling out and will not stick anymore. Anyone else having issues with that? Arms won't stay in lid, foam won't stay in. Pierre emailed you a week and a half ago with no answer.

Similar problem here also Jim. I am going to try some carpet tape for the foam issue. Arms not so sure yet.

I'm sure the bill is on the way. On the good side, the damn thing is earning its keep. Goes out again this weekend and once more next week.

Jim, with regards to your email:

“ Might want to tell your case co about the glue > We sure will
Thanks, so far looks good. > Good to know, happy to get more feedback
Any details coming on dialing in the fine tuning while operating? > More videos coming.”

About taxes, how can US customers be surprised by it? When you buy something in a US store at a displayed 100$ price, you end up paying ~ 115$ to the cashier for local taxes.

I had my waist belt slightly modified today which make it easy to jump in and out of the rig. I post an image if someone is interested. Its nice to be able to get in and out of the exo on my own in 1 minute.

Now it feels good to wear. Can you rotate the arms slightly.? I think it would give me more shoulder space. Would be good to avioid the exo arms as much as possible. Not sure which is the best way to transport it yet. But i will figure it out sooner or later. Hopefully I get some inspiration here. Im hoping to keep it as asambelled as possible.

Pierre, will you send me our units?

Ned and Kwan, you're both in NYC I wonder why you had to pay different amounts?? Taxes are going to be pretty standard. If you have less experience having gear sent in from out of country/state it may be a surprise but it's absolutely normal. I'm not sure why Kwan had to pay $220 more, though. Kwan what was the breakdown of the bill??

Joel, good idea modding the belt. I find it a little bit cumbersome as well. Would love to see how you did it.

For some reason some people received 1-piece arms while others received 2 piece. Sounds like you have the two piece so you should be able to rotate the arms by unscrewing the tiny allen bolts at the joint (the one closer to the end of the arm, not the shoulder) and you can (if you're strong) pull out the arm a little bit and rotate it to another position. There are 3 detents total although I'm not sure what detent you are on already. An easier way would be to disassemble the whole arm and with the spring removed perform the same operation. That would be more time consuming but a lot easier/painless as well as better for the spring.

As for a case. Hot glue may work depending on the foam. We use it in many of our other cases to keep foam in place. I'm not sure about a solution to keep the arms in. Maybe adding a velcro piece inside the recess and then added some to the arm to sort of help keep it in there?

We are leaving our unit fully assembled with the arms up while not in use to avoid stressing the springs too much. And for jobs - since we're apparently not getting the case we fast-tracked - we use this embarrassingly shitty tool chest as it's big enough to fit the unit in in one piece. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Stanley-37-in-Mobile-Job-Box-037025H/202300294

There should be no need to modify the waist belt in order to quickly get in and out of it on your own... it took me a good bit of practice, but now I can do it easily. It just takes getting used to.

Here is a picture of the extension.

I like this solution because of its simplicity. You still get the sturdy plates on your hip bone while its easy to slide in and out of the exoskeleton.
The extension is made of a 2mm thick cutting board which is strong but still flexible.

I could move the original metal peaces on hole more to close the gap but then I had to pull in the stomach some just to get the locking straps in there holes. So it would
be hard to fit a jacket under there. Also it was harder to get in and out of the exo. Now Its super fast to get in and out of it.

Perhaps, but this is just a small modification that is easy to restore to original if ever wanted. Its just nice to be able to get in the exoskeleton and put in the camera rig with in a minute.

I just extend the straps a few centimeters to make it possible to open up the exoskelets metal brackets one hole more to give me more space to go in and out. For me it made all the difference. Now I can easy fit a warm jacket under there without needing to remove the metal brackets.

Nice use of the Home Depot box. Think I may have to go that route. Anyone have a soft bag solution?

What kind of glue is proper to use on this case to help seal it back to sides? Mine is peeling off a bit as well. Don't want to use anything that will eat thru the foam or plastic...

Hi Pierre,

i have sent you a mail and a PM here on Reduser about my refund but nothing happened. Could you please look at it.

Thx Moritz

We'll shoot a tutorial video this weekend to help you out...

Did this ever happen? Can someone point me to any videos related to set-up and adjustment? I think the links are buried somewhere in ti thread but can't seem to find them. Help, please! Thanks.
