  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

Hien - does that go on 4th axis or 3rd? Or either?

Of course, I want them.

EDIT: Haha - how did my post get in front of yours? lol

Helix - Exoskeleton Adapter

Helix - Exoskeleton Adapter

This is the adapter you put on the 4th-axis ball bearing on the Helix and it will give you perfect tilt-ability. It gives you easy hand-off with all the benefits of the tethering (easy on the hands)

Sorry, I don't know how to update the pictures so I removed the post and repost it, I though I did it quick enough. Apparently not.

It will connect to the 4th-axis ball bearing, without needing the 4th-axis frame.

Ah, got it. Now I understand.

Still need it for when my Exo arrives!!!

Same hook idea can be implemented, but I only make Helix, so I let other makes adapters for their own gimbals. If you want my idea how to make it, here it is:

Tie a hook from the current strap of the L'Aigles, hook with bigger diameter than the gimbal's crossbar, hook it down to the bar and off you go. Home Depot parts should do it. If they need more elegant solution, you can make a more precise hook using CNCed parts.

Yeah, I already thought of this idea too... hopefully Pierre can whip something up... a universal clamp/hook combo that comes with the Exoskeleton. Preferably, the hooks attached to the leather straps would swivel 360 degrees.

Edit: quick release is key here. Not just quick, but instant release.

I thought of of swiveling hook, but I think the strap would do it as you cannot turn more than 90 degrees as the arm will twist.

Not a swiveling hook... But the strap itself would be on a swivel.

The good news is, when attaching to the thin hooks instead of the round crossbar, you are increasing the range of motion because the leather straps are able to flex and give more.

So, with thin hooks, you don't need a swivel.

Hien,

Yes, hooks are the way to go. Anyone have a good DYI solution for Ronin? I was thinking perhaps something fun with caribiners but I'm sure there has to be a more elegant solution.

Btw, the hook idea (or similar instant release method) is the only way to go... You cannot be tethered to your gimbal. Ever.

Could you just attach a couple caribeners to the straps and perhaps place some rubber rings on the Ronin/BS4/Movi cross bar to keep the beeners from sliding? If there's a way to make the straps shorter because with cross bar gimbals the lens height is already too low.

Does anyone have any insight as to rotating the Ronin the same way the Helix rotates to get through doorways? The crossbar on the Ronin looks to be significantly longer. Is it possible to get a shorter crossbar for the ronin so your arms dont have to be spread so wide?

I actually can whip some CAD drawing really quick for you guys if you guys want an elegant solution. I need some data (as I don't have any data on any of the gimbals out there). The diameter of the cross bar of the gimbals (I will draw base on the biggest diameter). I also need the width and thickness of the leather strap.

Ned, you actually want the bar to slide, that's Pierre's intention when he used the leather strap so the gimbal could be tilted.

Edited: I just can help with the drawing, I won't be able to manufacture it as all of our CnC machines are running full capacity.

A quick warning to all the “inspired” manufacturer out there...

Those who feel that docking the exo on a stand is necessary in the end (tossing it on the ground is not much of a “superior technique”),
Those who like the 2015 version better over the old 2013 version with elbows of standard camera stabilizer arms sticking outwards,
Those who like the “jetpack” stand-by position, with exoarms hooked on the belt,
Those who would like to replace the old forearm interface with our patent pending “Underslung Soft Hand Interface”...

Intellectual properties involved, resulting of 2 years field testing. This doesn't come for free.
You can get in contact to buy a licence.
Otherwise, see you in Court.

The straps look as if the can be slid tighter together on the Ronin crossbar.

The diameter of your largest coffee mug is about three inches. Hope this helps. Kidding aside, I'll find out the Ronin's cross bar specs.

It will look something like this. One universally will fit pretty all handle bars less than 30mm in diameter, and one will need specific dimmensions for each gimbal.
