  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: L'Aigle Exoskeleton

Carey I have few requests for your review if you can do them so we see how it works in normal shooting:
- go trough a normal single wing doorway
- how low can you go and still walk with it
- how hight can you go with Ronin
- sideways shooting
- speed of a 180degree pan
- put a subject close to you and jump (like runing, different speeds) up and down infront of it so we see how much the rig absorbs up and down movement, so we see the paralax effect on the subject infront in relation to the background

cheers,
uros

^^^^^^^^I agree

This looks quite exciting indeed. I'm looking forward to unleashing it on NYC. Just did a job with a MOVI and my op was shaking like a leaf after the first long take. Say goodbye to that nonsense. I'm also building a wall in my backyard. I'm it may come in handy for moving some boulders too.

I will shoot all of these, and more complex shots that require booming, slow and fast panning, tilting, circling etc. all in one shot.

I'd also love to ensure that the footage we see is not stabilized. It's great to see super smooth motion but I'm interested to see how walking translates with a gimbal. Pierre mentioned that the footage from BVE will come and stability added which makes it tricky to know how well everything is performing.

I wrote about a 7D stabilized by a Letus Jr. Where did people read about post-stabilization??
Besides you cannot post-stabilize walking effect...

I was wondering the same thing Pierre. I think some people misunderstood a post. I doubt seriously you would need post stabilization with the gimble and exoskeleton combo... It would kind of negate the purpose of even owning this gear. The girl in your videos said "it's better than a steady cam". I intend to prove that when I get my unit.

Right! We didn’t try the briefcase mode in London. But you can of course have the “USHI” (Underslung Soft Hand Interface, [patented]) loops supporting your hands, not directly the gimbal, to go for briefcase mode or hand it over.

Stabilized footage: I meant clean HD footage of the product shot with a 7D on a Helix Jr, not iPhone footage.
Here is Pierre's response to my question about stabilized footage in a previous post.

Pierre or anyone else who has some insights on this,

Here's a thought. One of the issues with using a gimbal are the limitations of mounting the monitor on the gimbal. When going high or low, you often have a poor sightline to your monitor and all that entails. The other issue is when going from low, to inverted to suitcase you have to readjust the monitor positioning.

One solution, using Cinemamizer goggles has its obvious dangers. I was thinking with the advent of the exoskeleton and the need to wear a support vest, why not incorporate a monitor mount onto the face of the vest. You could have a mount with a 1/4 20 or 3/8" fitting on the vest to attach some sort of a adjustable arm and now have the monitor where it should be - in front of your face. This would keep your sightline looking forward at all times, making it safer as you can always see where your going as well as give a clear view of your shot for those low and high angles.

I'm sure it's too late to incorporate in your current design and would cause delay but perhaps it's something to consider as an upgrade. It would clearly separate L'Aigle from the competition by leaps and understanding the issues we operators contend with. So many products especially gimbals and Sony menus seemed to be designed by theorists and not cameramen. If gimbals were designed by us, Movi would have a truly sleek integrated power solution; Ronin's battery wouldn't jut out; you could set them down with out a stand; operator modes would be switchable without a computer; etc.

My two cents, just tell me where to send the invoice. LOL.

I'm curious if the exo will potentially replace my easyrig for handheld work. Hoping we don't have to wait too much longer before shipping starts.

i dont think it can replace it. its just another tool. by the video you cant walk and do low shots and cant pan without panning whole body,... its wide and easyrig is tall... both have limitations. its kinda saying gimbals are game changers and steadicam will die. but there are shots you cant do with gimbal and you can do with steadicam... each tool has + and - and this is just one of them

Would love to se some shoots from a moving car. And if youre not over 185cm perhaps you could try a "normal sized car" like a volvo=) or similar. Would be fun just to se the limitations.
If you do any car shots please dont take the newest built roads that is 98% flat.

Joel, I noticed on the video that the guy from BeyondHD says that the ex is 2-3 weeks out... Is this true and does that mean the group buyers will start being shipped soon?

Fantastic news on all fronts!!

Great work Pierre!!

Update: The first Exoskeleton has been shipped, and will be at my doorstep this coming Tuesday, March 10th! I will prepare a shoot for that weekend after I've had a chance to get used to it and I'll be posting my results soon after!

The wheels are in motion!!

Great Carey. Can you test to see if it can pass through a normal door? My chief worry with this.

Doorway tests, interior car shots, running to test the 4th-axis stability, holding at eye level for extended periods of time, complex shots that stop on a dime, whip pan stop on a dime on another subject, a slow creep to try to emulate a "Kubrick" style dolly shot... These are all on my list.
