Group Buy: K-FLECT lighting System

FYI

I will be in Milan tomorrow for anyone who wants to drop by.

Hi David,

I'm primarily interested in reflecting sunlight. What sets a K-Flector L apart from a Matthews Aluminum Hand Reflector, considering they're at least 1.5 times the price (with a Magball L, the Matthews has a "hard" and a "soft" side and is slightly larger)? Are they more efficient? I guess they don't wobble when it's windy?

Thanks!

Hey Cedric,

I guess my answer would be, more choices. The K-Flect system has 17 different surfaces from something that is almost a full mirror (which in small sizes would emulate a source 4 or a tight dedo spot, to surfaces that produce brand soft light like a softbox and many in between. The idea with having so many surfaces is because K-Flect is based on taking a single source beam (a reflector that attaches to a joker bug to create and amplify a 5degree beam of light) and then that extremely powerful source to reflect the light around with the different panels.

They are on a lightweight backboard which has a magnetic attachment and with a magnetic grip attachment you can attach them to any stand. They won't wobble in the wind and they will stay where you put them, like any other light.

I see each panels reflective quality as a different type of light source, a spot, a soft bounce, a tight spot, an effect light, and once you have your beam set up it is really easy to experiment with your lighting just by swapping out different panels.

Certain panels are probably much more efficient and are practically mirrors.

I had tried to get Christian Berger to Vegas for a Reduser NAB event years ago to demonstrate this type of system. Couldn't make schedule work, but I've always wanted to setup a demonstration of the system here in the US. How many would be interested in this? Maybe I can look into organizing something. A weekend workshop would be amazing.

Thanks for the prompt reply David! I've seen photos where they used KFLECT to bounce sunlight, therefore my question. I'm only getting into video/lighting so I'll start with renting Matthews reflectors till I know what I want.

Hi Fellas,

Just a little bad news to report.

The K-FLect folks were here in Italy working out a dealer and doing the Micro Salon in Rome, but the day before their trade show in Rome their Van was robbed and they lost a bunch of gear including reflector kits, jokers and one of their main reflectors for the joker which creates the 5 degree beam of light that makes the system so wonderful.

Anyhow. If anyone hears of some of this type of gear being moved or sold throughout europe can you keep your eyes and ears open as I might be their stuff.

Feeling for Rita and Frederic at this moment.

Yes, I'd like to see it in action.

Frederic was at Cinegear last year, with a setup, adjacent to Hexolux...

Thank you very much

Anyone in Los Angeles who owns one and willing to rent this out? Please PM me. Looking to use it on this Sunday, April 9th.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.... but does anyone know the status of KFLECT right now?

The KFLECT website seems to be down, and the KFLECT system is 'out of stock' at Visionsmith.

Anyone know where to find them today? Anyone with a DoP kit available?

I'll try to get in touch with them. I know they had some terrible luck in Rome where they had a lot of their gear stolen while down there for a trade show.

Any word back about KFLECT David? I would also be interested in another group buy...

Alternatively, anyone else have a KFLECT DoP kit they are willing to sell?

Hey guys (and gals),
I have several remote projects I will be on and I definitely see how this system could be of service to me.
On the lookout for a Kflect kit if anyone has one they are looking to part with. PM me here.

Cheers,
Clayton

I contacted Vision Smith about buying some individual panels (#7 Large, 50cm x 50cm) and received no response. Anybody have one to sell?
