  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: K-FLECT lighting System

Glad i could help.
If you can get the discount on a whole DOP Starter Pack, i might be in as well.

Maybe K-Flect added holes for safety ropes meanwhile, last i had the system was in October 2013
There is also a high weight difference between a PaniFlector and a K-Flect Reflecor, thats probably why a hole for a safety isn´t the first you think of when you have a K-Flect reflector in hands.
A PaniFlector is heavier and the base where the mirror surface sits on is metallic, und you don´t want to drop that mirror on someone/something, so safety wire is kind of a must there
The K-Flect reflector is way lighter then the PaniFlector The base is made of some light plastic (it might be a honeycomb polymer, but this is speculation) , the corners do have a special protection cover and if that would fall down, it won't hurt to much or damage anything.

Updated first post with pricing and discount info!

Some of you will be very happy!

Hey guys,

thanks for the overwhelming response.

Emails with itch passwords and configurations will go out today.

This is fun.

Hi Gang,

Emails have gone out to the first wave. Let the reflecting games begin!

Thanks, but...the % column (H) seems to be either blank or zero. Should we change all values to 20%? Only those values that are not listed as 0%? Or are the prices listed already discounted? Thanks!

A bit more key information about which address safety and proper usage, protection etc.

Corners
The standard K-Flectors have coloured (for identification purposes) rubber protections corners.
They protect
1. The K-Flectors from nicks and bumps.
2. furnitures from scratches and
3. People who work with them, by avoiding sharp corners

Attachment
All reflectors from have thin steel plates glued on the rear side, enabling magnetic mounting.
In order to avoid injuries, the stainless steel plates on K-Flectors are disks instead of angled plates.

Safety
All standard K-Flectors have a hole in one corner to fix our safety sling (or a standard lighting safety chain) named Secuflect.

Sizes
There are 4 “Standard” sizes 10x20, 30x30, 50x50 and 100x100 cm.
KFlect offers also TT K-Flectors – TT is the abbreviation for Table Top *for very specific product shot applications, etc – in the following 7 sizes: 5x5, 5x10, 5x15, 5x20, 10x10, 10x20 and 30x30 cm.
All TT K-Flectors have stainless steel discs on the rear side but don’t have protection corners in order to avoid coloured reflections on shiny objects when the reflectors are placed close to them. There are no sharp edges and they can easily be handled with one hand.
The five smallest TT K-Flectors don’t have holes.

Magnetic holders
KFlect offers 4 rubber-encapsulated and lightweight magnets with the following diameters: 22, 43, 66 and 88 mm.
This choice enables selecting the appropriate one for each K-Flector size.
The rubber surface prevents the K-Flector to slip away.

Just a side note on sizes. Don't think that you need a 100x100 to do simple small setups. I'd say for an interview or something 30x30 *depending on the panel is a very large (source). So don't get caught up thinking these have to be really big to give off a large light source. All of the examples in this thread are done with a 10x10cm panel. This kinda shocked me at first.

Me too! I needed to reflect on that for a 48th of a second.

;-)

Hi Michael,

Use the configuration to configure any pricing and the just knock 20% off the total. This way you can mix and match. So the price you see for the kits, just knock 20% off. You could do it right in the spreadsheet as well if you like.

Cheers,

David, you used 10x10cm panels for interview examples in post #9 ???

May I know the light source, please?

Thank you,
Billy

Would Kflect give some idea of shipping costs [to USA] for the range of sizes,

and if customs duty is assessed?

Hey Billy,

those are all with 10x10 panels indeed. The source is 1000 Dayled Lupo fresnel at about 2-3 meters. I'll post a diagram later. I just shot the light back toward the reflectors and then used the panels to light the scene. It's cool because I could use a soft panel as a base light and then a hard panel or a spot as a snoot or a bad round light. From the same spot I could have added a third or fourth.

All just with the same single source.

Looking into this for you, but as with all shipping, size, weight and time will dictate. The good news is that they are pretty lightweight.

David do you feel this kind of set-up will become alot more popular especially in lighting smaller scale narrative indie films...?

Totally! Because it allows you to do a bit more with less or lower budgets. You can stretch the lights you do have in a different way.
